Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul

Friedrich Froebel

At Canopy Nursery Shrewsbury our role is to nurture that natural curiosity, giving children the time, space and encouragement to explore, imagine and discover something new every single day through play.

Lie back together and watch the clouds drift by. Can you spot an animal? A castle? A dragon? Cloud watching encourages imagination, language development and conversation, while giving children the chance to slow down and notice the world around them. Sometimes the simplest activities create the biggest memories.

Here at Canopy Nursery Shrewsbury, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens when children take the time to stop, observe and ask questions about the world around them.

Why are butterflies attracted to certain flowers?
How many different colours can we spot?
Where do they go when it rains?

The Big Butterfly Count this summer is a wonderful opportunity for children to become Curious Explorers, developing their observation skills while building a deeper connection with nature.

As they search, count and discuss what they discover, they're doing far more than spotting butterflies. They're learning to care for living things, appreciate their environment and understand that even the smallest creatures play an important role in our world.

Will you be taking part with your family this summer? Let us know how many butterflies you spot! 🦋🌿

Big Pippins are all set for another week of under the sea adventures!

Our inviting sensory tray is ready to spark curiosity, imagination and hands-on learning. From scooping and pouring to exploring shells, stones and sea creatures, every element encourages our little learners to investigate, create and discover through play.

These open-ended experiences help to develop fine motor skills, language, problem-solving and creativity, all while having lots of fun!
We can't wait to see where the children's imaginations take them this week.

At Canopy Nursery Shrewsbury, we encourage children to have a go, make mistakes, try again and celebrate their achievements along the way. We're there to support, guide and encourage, but we also know the value of stepping back and giving children the opportunity to discover what they're capable of. It happens in the moment a child pours their own drink for the first time. or when they put on their coat without help.

When they solve a problem, persevere through a challenge or decide to give something new a try.

These moments may seem small, but they help children develop something incredibly important: belief in themselves.

Because every child deserves to feel the pride that comes from saying:

"I did it."

And every one of those moments helps build the confidence they carry into nursery, school and beyond.

What's one thing your child insists on doing all by themselves at the moment?

As part of our current core book topic, our babies have been enjoying sharing books all about turtles.
Even our youngest learners benefit from spending time with books. Through looking at the pictures, listening to new words and exploring different animals, they are developing early communication and language skills while nurturing a lifelong love of reading.
These calm, shared moments help to spark curiosity, encourage conversation and provide opportunities to learn about the amazing world around us, one page at a time.

The truth is, there is no 'perfect' age to start nursery.

What matters most isn't when a child starts, but how they're supported when they do.

At Canopy Nursery Shrewsbury , we take the time to get to know each child as an individual, helping them build secure relationships, develop confidence and settle at a pace that feels right for them.

For some children, nursery is an opportunity to explore new environments, form friendships and develop independence. For parents, it can provide reassurance knowing their child is being cared for in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Starting nursery is a big milestone, but it doesn't have to be a daunting one.

With the right support, children often surprise us with just how adaptable, capable and resilient they can be.

And remember, settling in is a journey. We're here to support both you and your child every step of the way.

If you're thinking about starting nursery and have questions about the settling-in process, we'd love to help. Send us a message or book a visit to Canopy Nursery Shrewsbury
