🧠💙 DEMENTIA CARE REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE, COMPASSION & CONFIDENCE

Are you working in adult health and social care? Or looking to develop your career in dementia care?

Our ICQ Level 3 Certificate in Dementia is a fantastic opportunity to develop your knowledge, skills and confidence to provide high-quality, person-centred support to people living with dementia.

🌟 Why choose this course?

Dementia affects every person differently. Having the right knowledge helps care professionals understand the individual behind the diagnosis and provide support that protects their dignity, independence, choices and quality of life.

By completing this qualification, you can develop your understanding of:

🧠 Different types and causes of dementia
💬 Communication and person-centred approaches
❤️ Supporting wellbeing, dignity and independence
🤝 Responding appropriately to changing needs and behaviours
🛡️ Safeguarding and recognising potential risks
📋 Care planning and delivering effective support
🌱 Developing your professional knowledge and career opportunities

🏥 How does this support CQC requirements?

CQC Regulation 18 requires care providers to ensure that staff have the appropriate skills, knowledge, qualifications, competence and experience to meet the needs of the people they support. Providers must also identify and support appropriate training and professional development.

Dementia-specific training can therefore play an important role in helping services demonstrate that their workforce has the knowledge and skills needed to support people living with dementia safely and effectively.

The Dementia Training Standards Framework also provides a national structure for dementia education across health and social care, supporting consistent, relevant and quality-assured dementia learning.

❤️ Most importantly…

Better-trained staff mean better-informed care.

When we understand dementia, we are better placed to understand behaviour, communicate effectively, recognise changing needs and support people as individuals — rather than simply seeing a diagnosis.

Skills for Care highlights that dementia is complex and affects everyone differently, making personalised care and appropriate training essential to supporting quality of life.

📚 Invest in your knowledge.
💙 Strengthen your practice.
🌱 Develop your career.
❤️ Make a real difference to the lives of people living with dementia.

09/09/2026

💚 Why should people working in Adult Social Care complete a Level 2 Mental Health course?

Working in adult care is about so much more than meeting someone’s physical needs. The people we support may also experience anxiety, depression, trauma, dementia, psychosis or other mental health difficulties — and our knowledge and understanding can make a real difference to their quality of life.

A Level 2 Mental Health course helps care workers develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to recognise changes in a person’s mental health, communicate effectively, reduce stigma and respond appropriately when someone may need additional support.

🌱 Why is this important for care workers?

✔️ Recognise early signs of deterioration,
Understanding changes in mood, behaviour and communication can help staff identify when someone’s mental health may be changing and take appropriate action.

✔️ Provide person-centred care
CQC expectations place a strong emphasis on care that meets people’s individual needs, preferences and emotional wellbeing. Good mental health knowledge helps staff understand the person behind the care plan.

✔️ Improve communication
The right knowledge helps staff communicate with empathy, patience and understanding, particularly when someone is distressed or struggling to express how they feel.

✔️ Support safeguarding
Staff need to understand how to recognise concerns and know when and how to escalate them. CQC guidance requires safeguarding training appropriate to a worker’s role and stresses that staff understand their responsibilities to prevent, identify and report abuse.

✔️ Build confidence and competence
Training gives staff a stronger foundation for dealing with situations they may encounter in everyday care, rather than relying solely on experience or instinct.

📋 What about CQC requirements?

CQC expects providers to ensure staff have the skills, knowledge and competence needed to provide safe, effective and person-centred care. Mental health training can therefore be an important part of demonstrating that a workforce is appropriately trained and able to meet the needs of the people it supports.

❤️ Most importantly — how does it benefit the people we support?

Because behind every care plan is a person.

Someone who feels understood rather than judged.
Someone whose changes in behaviour are recognised rather than dismissed.
Someone who is listened to.
Someone who is supported to maintain their dignity, independence, choices and wellbeing.

Better-trained staff can provide better support.

Investing in mental health education isn’t simply about completing another certificate. It’s about developing a workforce that is knowledgeable, compassionate, confident and person-centred — and ultimately improving the experience and outcomes of the people we care for. 💚

📚 Mental health awareness should be part of developing a skilled and competent adult social care workforce.
