Telling the time ⏰
This simple homemade clock is so handy for learning to tell the time. It's made from card (a paper plate is perfect) and the hands are secured with a paper fastener (split pin) so they can be easily moved.
I often start to teach the time using only the hour hand, like they do in this video: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00116lt/numberblocks-specials-about-time
If you're ready to teach your little one to tell the time, how about giving it a go?

Looking for ways to make practising times tables?
Last week, while doom scrolling on Facebook (yes, I get caught up doing that sometimes too!) I saw a maths picture problem and thought, "Ooh, I could use that with my tutees!"
Fast forward a couple of days and we had lots of fun solving the problem then making our own to swap and solve.
This is definitely something you could try at home to mix it up a bit, especially if your child's sitting their Year 4 Multiplication Check next month.

❓Want to help your child practise their 2 times table?
This week, I used lots of bits and bobs from around the house for a fun 'How Many 2s?' activity. It went down a treat! 🎉
First, they matched the multiplication flashcards with the correct representation, then had a go at picking a random flashcard and choosing what to use to show the fact.🧦🎲Learning with a practical, hands-on approach, so children can really see and feel the maths, is incredibly important to support a strong understanding.

This week some of my older tutees have been looking at Roman numerals. We had lots of fun rolling dice then using lolly sticks to make the numbers!

Feedback like this makes the time spent planning and preparing fun, hands-on sessions totally worth it!
For some children, sitting quietly and concentrating on an activity for a sustained period of time is a great way to learn. For others, this would be torture!
That's one of the many benefits of private tuition - learning that's tailored to the individual child's needs.
