Well done yesterday to Rose Sykes, who passed her Test in Worthing. The roads were semi busy, but thanks to the work she put in; to build up her knowledge, her processes, the experiences of dealing with situations and possible random elements that might appear - it was a great safe drive.

It's been great to help her. Here's to a future of Happy Driving.

A First class and confident drive yesterday from Shakthi Shanmugam as he passed his Driving Test in Worthing, and was well deserved.

Great drive today from Matthew Hopkins achieving a First Time Pass at Worthing, and with very few Minors.

He was very calm and collected, even when a dustbin lorry turned up in a very narrow street! Well handled.

Now you can focus on the next big thing- University. All the best for the future and when ready, confident safe driving. Truly well earned.

THE BEND THAT WILL KILL YOU IF YOU GUESS THE SPEED

Most drivers have no idea how to read a rural bend.
They barrel in at a speed they cannot control, hoping the bend will magically open up for them.
Hope is not a driving skill.
Hope is how people die on country roads.

Rural bends are simple.
You survive them only if you match your speed to what you can actually see.
Not to the limit.
Not to your confidence.
Not to what you did last time.
Only to what is visible right now.

This is the limit point.
The furthest point on the road you can see before the bend disappears.
If that point runs toward you fast, you are going too fast.
If that point stays still, your speed is correct.
If that point moves away, you have control.

Most drivers never look for it.
They stare at the verge.
They stare at the centre line.
They stare at the straight bit before the danger.
None of that helps when the bend tightens and the car leaves the road at thirty metres per second.

Too many rural deaths follow the same pattern.
The driver entered the bend too fast.
The limit point rushed toward them.
They missed the warning their eyes were giving them.
They braked too late.
The car shifted.
The grip vanished.
The tree or ditch decided the outcome.

Trees do not care if you have passengers.
Ditches do not care if you have children in the back.
Country roads do not care how experienced you think you are.

Speed on rural roads is different from speed anywhere else.
The danger is not the number on the sign.
The danger is the number you choose when you cannot see what is waiting for you.

A bend can hide a tractor.
A horse rider.
A cyclist.
A broken down car.
A flood.
A fallen tree.
A driver on your side of the road.
A child walking home.
A teenager who has never been taught what limit points are.

Every single one of them will lose the battle against a driver who enters a bend too fast.

Slow before the bend.
Choose a speed that allows you to stop in half the distance you can see to be clear.
Hold your position.
Look for the limit point.
Adjust your speed until that point stays still.

Country roads are beautiful until you treat them like a race track.
The next bend is either safe or fatal depending on your speed.
There is no in between.

Well done to Kayhan Adatepe for a brilliant and safe First Time Pass at Worthing yesterday, and with No Minors.

Although very hot, it was bearable and not a distraction to the driving.

As you already have your car, enjoy getting rid of the L plate.

Enjoy the freedom the new licence will give you and have a great future of confident safe driving.

Well done to Nika Derakhshan yesterday, as she passed her driving test First Time at Worthing. Only one minor too.

It was a busy time with mad school parents on the loose, and she even got safely around an awkward two car incident on a roundabout too!

Glorious sunshine, glorious driving... That was enough.

I'm glad to have helped you. So enjoy the new Licence coming your way.
. . And, maybe the Landrover can wait awhile!

Midday test today at Worthing with had dubious weather before, which then turned into glorious sunshine for Anouk Parker-Tregoat, as she expertly showed off her driving skills and awareness . . . and passed First Time with only a few minors.

I'm glad to have helped you and we've both fine tuned your skills, so that safety is paramount.

Now you have your own brand new shiny pink/blue FULL Licence coming your way- Use it wisely, and enjoy.
