Even after years of changing career from Schools to my own practice I just can't stop being a classroom teacher โ no matter how many years or decades I've spent teaching private students, groups, or now our Music STEAM Tech Clubs.
I think ahead. Pragmatically. Always.
Can't help it. I need to create better each time.
What I used to think was an annoying trait actually serves our learners beautifully.
Every child gets their own "Working Desk" label โ filled in and stuck to their station until their project is complete.
When they leave, it goes into a sleeve with their kit, so no one else touches their work while they're away. They come back next week and everything is exactly as they left it. Their name. Their project. Their pace.
Because at Music STEAM Tech Clubs, every resource โ right down to a laminated desk label โ is designed so a child feels heard, seen, and valued. The child is at the centre of every project we build. Always.
Isn't it cool or what? ๐
And guess what, tutors and the volunteers I hire love me for it! Their jobs are easier. They can focus on delivery not admin stuff.
We've been listening โ to your questions, your suggestions, and the things you wanted to know before signing your teen up for a summer of Music STEAM Tech.
That's why we've just launched a brand-new FAQ page on our website, covering everything from what a session actually looks like, to safeguarding, to how our Code Club & Raspberry Pi-backed curriculum works.

๐ธ This was the moment.
This was the moment I met Adonai Chinyama โ a 21-year-old, brilliant tutor and mentor with Southend Tech, based in Essex.
We sat down, gloves in hand (yes, actual coded gloves! ๐งค๐ป), laptops open, micro:bits scattered across the table between us โ and within minutes, we realised we had something in common that ran deeper than tech.
Adonai plays the violin and the guitar. She is a musician at heart and loves creating music with Tech.
She's passionate about inclusive STEM learning.
She's already working with three different age groups โ 8โ11, 12โ16, and 17โ21+ โ teaching wearable music tech, coding and programming to young people who might never otherwise have had the chance to try it.
Let's see she is:
A STEM Ambassador.
A BBC micro:bit Champion (2026โ2027).
A mentor with Southend & Chelmsford Raspberry Jam and the Essex Steamettes.
Someone who has already put in real years building confidence and skills in underprivileged young people, one session at a time.
I knew, right then, sitting at that table โ I had to bring her into what we're building in Shoeburyness. ๐ถโก
So here we are:
Southend On Sea Music STEM Tech Clubs, based at Shoeburyness Youth Centre, and Adonai is a core part of the team from day one.
Another brilliant project launched by Maria Moon Music CIC in less than 5 days! ๐
We start next week. Visit our website. Fill the form and apply to get a FREE place for a hand full of children. Spaces are few but we will reach out if you can't get in this time.
Support, share, and let's connect. Let's code. ๐

๐๐ผI'm sorry to say this again or to cause upset but Music is vanishing from classrooms up and down the country.
Why is this? Even when everyone posts on how important Music is?
We all know it. Music is quietly disappearing from classrooms, nurseries and daycare settings โ cut, squeezed out, deprioritised. ๐ตโ
But here's the thing: this is happening at exactly the age when your child's brain is at its PEAK for absorbing music โ the same neural pathways that build language, movement and social connection.
We can't wait for the system to fix this. We have to take control ourselves. ๐ถOr do what we can to ask the question: " Do you do music? How often? What do you do? How is that part of my child's day?. " Ask and ask and ask until its evident how important it is for you.
At Maria Moon Music, we're putting music back where it belongs โ in the hands of the families, childminders and educators who see these children every single day.
