🎡Music Tech for All. Building Confident, Creative Learners Through Hands-On STEAM Coding. Based in Shoeburyness, Essex, Music STEM Tech Clubs is on a mission to make coding education accessible, hands-on,

inclusive, and career-oriented β€” for every child, every background, every learning style.

🎹 We fuse STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths) with real music technology β€” coding, wearable tech, and creative sound design β€” so kids don't just learn to code, they learn to create.

✨ Our clubs and camps are designed in line with global music tech industry standards, guided by experienced mentors who've worked in real professional environments. Confident, curious, happier children.

πŸš€ We focus on:
βœ… Child-centred, project-based learning
βœ… Structured, progressive skill development
βœ… Real-world, career-oriented readiness
Every child leaves knowing how to turn knowledge into real-world skills β€” and real opportunities.

🎧 That's why we run practical, hands-on, inclusive coding & music tech clubs and camps for kids, teens and young adults β€” right here in Shoeburyness & Southend-on-Sea.

πŸŽΆπŸ’» New Video: Meet the Sanderlings & Kingfishers! 🐦🐦

Ever wondered how Southend Music STEAM Tech Clubs works for different ages? We've just released a video breaking it all down!

🐦 Sanderlings (ages 8–11) – our foundation group, learning to code through playful, project-based music-tech activities.

🐦 Kingfishers (ages 12–16) – our advanced group, tackling more independent, project-led coding and music-tech challenges.

Both groups get hands-on with real tech β€” BBC Micro:bit, ESP32 and Raspberry Pi β€” while creating music along the way. We're a proud Raspberry Pi Foundation Code Club Listed Venue, and every learner gets an EHCP-ready progress report parents can add straight to their child's educational record.

Perfect for home-schooling families and anyone looking for a fun, supportive way into coding and tech. πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’œ

πŸŽΆπŸ”Œ Coming to our Music STEAM Tech Clubs in Shoeburyness very soon...

We've had ongoing conversations with Ltd β€” the official UK distributor for SPOKE board β€” and we've landed a deal! πŸ™ŒWe're thrilled to announce that Southend Music STEAM Tech Clubs has officially partnered with SPOKE board to source and deliver these brilliant, playful, capacitive-touch music-making kits across our clubs and holiday camps.

SPOKE turns literally anything conductive β€” metal, fruit, foil, even a felt MiniMu glove! β€” into a musical instrument or game controller. No soldering, no complicated code, just plug in and start creating. It opens up a whole new world of creative coding + music-making for our learners. 🎹🍌⚑

One of the projects that got us properly excited?

"The Amazing Cringey Jukebox" β€” built by a youth digital skills club who turned a stash of cringeworthy videos into a fully wired, hand-designed jukebox with hidden buttons, secret animations, and even a "cringe rating" voting system built entirely by the kids. THAT is exactly the kind of imaginative, self-directed making we want to bring to Shoeburyness. πŸ‘‰ Read the full story

🧠 Top 5 Skills Our Learners Will Build β€” Autism & SEND-Friendly by Design

At SMSTEAMTECH, we believe in expanding minds that think differently but can make a huge contribution to our world. SPOKE's tactile, low-barrier, sensory-friendly design makes it a perfect fit for our neurodiverse learners.

🐦 Sanderlings (ages 8–11)

Cause & effect coding logic β€” touch a material, trigger a sound β€” building early computational thinking without screens or pressure
Sensory-safe exploration β€” hands-on, tactile learning that supports children who process the world through touch and movement
Turn-taking & collaborative play β€” sharing a board to build a group "instrument" grows social confidence in a low-stakes way
Creative self-expression β€” making their own sound with everyday objects builds pride and ownership
Focus & regulation β€” short, satisfying feedback loops (touch β†’ sound) support attention and calm engagement
Tangible impact: children see an instant result from their own action β€” a powerful confidence-builder for kids who often feel "behind" in traditional classroom settings.

🐟 Kingfishers (ages 12–16)

Circuit & conductivity fundamentals β€” real hands-on electronics knowledge, no prior experience needed
CircuitPython coding β€” editing real code to customise sound, sensitivity, and behaviour
Project design & problem-solving β€” planning a build from concept to finished, working instrument (just like the Cringey Jukebox team did!)
Music technology & MIDI literacy β€” understanding how physical input becomes digital sound, a genuine pathway into music production and sound engineering
Presentation & pride in output β€” showing off a finished, working creation builds self-belief and a sense of contribution
Tangible impact: teens who may struggle with conventional "sit and listen" learning get to lead a build, make mistakes safely, and walk away with something real β€” a proven confidence and self-esteem boost, especially for autistic and SEND learners who often feel their strengths go unseen.

At the end of the summer term, the Everything Electronic youth club, a free digital skills club for young people run by the Cromar Future Group in rural Aberdeenshire, wrapped up their STEM sessions with a project only a group of imaginative kids could have dreamed up: the Amazingly Cringe Juke Box.

πŸ™ A huge thank you to Whale

Some tech donations don't just fill a gap β€” they open a door.

This week, our Head of Projects and Learning Adonai Chinyama, received a generous donation of equipment from David Whale β€” including MiniMu glove kits, 2 Lenovo ThinkPad laptops, a Kitronik LAB:bit kit, and a micro:bit-powered robot buggy.

Every single item is now on its way into the hands of young people in Shoeburyness who are building their first lines of code, their first circuits, and their first sense that tech is for them too.

For those who don't know David β€” this isn't a one-off act of kindness, it's a lifetime of it.

A little about the man behind the donation:

πŸŽ“ First-class honours in Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire β€” his final-year research on the Hatfield RISC Processor was published at an IEEE Euromicro workshop.
πŸ“š Co-author of Adventures in Minecraft β€” a book that has taught thousands of 11–15 year-olds to code in Python through the game they already love.
πŸ”§ A driving force and long-time volunteer behind the BBC micro:bit project β€” described by peers as "well known and respected by the communities in which he operates," working alongside the BBC, ARM, and Microsoft to get micro:bit into schools nationwide.
🎀 STEM Ambassador, teacher trainer, TV prop engineer, and a maker who is still out there building sound-reactive pixel controllers and NeoPixel hacks for fun β€” decades into a career most people would call "done."

🀝 An IET volunteer and mentor who has quietly changed outcomes for students and educators throughout his career.

David didn't have to notice our Music STEAM club in Shoeburyness.

He didn't have to donate real, working kit that will directly put micro:bits, laptops, and hands-on learning in front of children who might never otherwise get the chance. But he did β€” because that's what community looks like when it works.

This is the bit we want to shout about: none of the progress at Southend Music Tech Clubs happens in isolation. It happens because people like David Whale, organisations like the BBC micro:bit team, Raspberry Pi Foundation, and Code Club, and mentors like Adonai Chinyama all choose to show up for young people who need it most.

When the tech world's most experienced hands reach down to lift up the next generation, that's the greater good in action β€” and it's contagious.

Thank you, David. From Adonai, from our learners, and from all of us at Southend Music Tech Clubs β€” this means more than you know. πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’œ
