The most important thing to remember is bread doesn’t contain the nutrients needed. As the weather is getting colder - if we can select other options such as seed that will give them what they need to keep warm and healthy that’s something we should look to do.
Bread in moderation, or they will become ill.
I have actually spoken to the RSPB this morning regarding feeding ducks bread and here is the advice they give -
Hi Amy,
Briefly, bread is acceptable to birds including ducks, but it doesn't contain all the nutrients they need so should only be seen as an empty 'filler'. When this poster suggests it makes them ill - it fills them up so they don’t seek other food. But the bread inside their bellies only fills and doesn’t give them what they need to keep healthy and warm during the cooler months.
