Staff Training day fun! Earlier in the summer term the staff team enjoyed taking part in a North Norfolk training programme called Active Futures- With the aim to enhance practice by creating active environments that will support children's physical movement and development. As part of this programme we have been lucky enough to receive training by Little Riders - Children's Cycling Courses so we can implement balance bike riding and the safety aspects that go alongside. We are excited to introduce our new bikes to the children, Kindly gifted to us by Active Futures and will be holding regular activity workshops with the children to learn how to safely ride them.

🐞 This week at Ladybird…..

🐞 It’s the last week of term!

🐞 Our focus this week has been having lots of fun together before summer!

🐞 The children have been super energetic this week, so we’ve been giving them lots of opportunities to get physical, build strength and run around! With the children’s help, we put together an assault course. We used crates, log slices, balance beams, stools, tyres and other materials to give them both a physical challenge and something fun to do! They loved jumping, balancing and impressed us with their teamwork as they ventured along the obstacles and different physical trails.

⚽️ England may not have won their football game on Wednesday, but rest assured, the Ladybird footballers have been in training all week! Inspired by the World Cup, we have been enjoying lots of games of football together, honing in on our kicking, passing and goal scoring skills. I reckon our team would easily win the World Cup! Go Ladybird!

🐞 Other activities have included making potions using natural materials like herbs and flowers, preparing muddy dishes in the mud kitchen, chalking on the playground, water play, stretchy band games and songs and much more!

🐞 Of course we also said goodbye to our school leavers this week. While this is very sad for us, it is also a really exciting time for the children and we wish them the best of luck for the future!

🐞 Thank you from all of the staff at Ladybird for all of your support this year, from parents/carers, trustees, volunteers and other friends of Ladybird, we are so lucky to be part of such a wonderful community in our amazing town of Sheringham. Also thank you for all of our beautiful cards and gifts, we are truly spoilt! Have a fantastic summer everyone! ☀️

🐞 This week at Ladybird…..

🐞 We’ve been looking at ‘Adventures at the seaside’.

🗺️’Yo, ho, ho, me hearties!’ Our own little pirates made some fantastic treasure maps this week. They used cold tea to stain their paper, then once they were dry added details such as trees, mountains, beaches, caves and of course an ‘X’ to mark the spot!

🏖️ On Tuesday, we had a trip to Sheringham beach. The children painted stones, did some chalking on the sea walls and also looked for beach themed treasures along the prom and on the beach. We ended the trip with a refreshing ice cream treat! The children were so well behaved and did amazingly well throughout the trip. Great work Ladybirds! 🍦

🐞 In preparation for Sheringham carnival, the children have been busily making bug themed crafts and paintings for our float. Remember, if you would like to take part in the carnival parade with us, just let Emma know and she can add you to our list. The more the merrier!

🧜‍♀️ Our seaside theme is good for developing the children’s literary skills as we have a huge range of books at nursery that relate to the beach. One of our favourite stories is ‘What the ladybird heard at the seaside’. With this story in mind, some of the children designed their own mermaids and used bright pencils, pens, glitter and sequins to decorate them. Reading books to your child is hugely beneficial when it comes to speech and language development, among many other things, why not join the library if you haven’t done so already this summer! They often hold fun, free activities too throughout the holidays, which are definitely worth exploring.

☀️ It looks like the warm weather is set to continue next week, so just a reminder to please apply sun cream to your child before nursery and dress them, where possible in loose, long clothing.

🐞 Have a great weekend everyone!

🐞 This week at Ladybird…..

🦖 It’s been dinosaur week!

🦕 We’ve had an amazing week, exploring anything and everything dinosaur related. We didn’t quite realise how many of the children were such dinosaur experts, proper palaeontologists in the making!

🦖 We designed our own, new dinosaurs, using painty handprints. We asked the children what they thought they would look like if they were dinosaurs, what colour, what would they eat, would they fly etc and they truly let their imaginations take over! They also designed dinosaurs using play dough, dried pasta, coloured sequins and other craft items.

🦕 We wouldn’t have dinosaurs without eggs, so we made some frozen dinosaur eggs for the children to explore. The ice didn’t last long in this hot weather but it was a fun activity while it lasted! Ice play is so simple, (almost!) free and is lots of fun! You could freeze any small world animals, characters, flowers and leaves in containers of water for your children to explore. Try it at home and let us know how it goes!

🦖 We created a dinosaur world sensory tray, which was so exciting to play with! It included real plants, sand, stones, soil and other natural elements which helped to create a realistic, prehistoric small world environment.

🦕 It wouldn’t be dinosaur week without giving the children opportunities to dig for fossils and bones. We carefully hid pretend bones, dinosaur skeletons and fossils in soil and sand and observed as the children carefully used trowels and paint brushes to uncover the ancient treasures. They also used salt dough to create their own fossils, which they later painted and decorated.

🦖 Stomp into the weekend with a roar everyone! 🦕

🐞 This week at Ladybird…..

🐞 We’ve been looking at rainforests.

🐞 All week the children have been busy creating a rainforest diorama. They did this in daily stages which helped to build the children’s understanding of the natural world as the week went on. Alongside the other rainforest themed activities and discussions during our daily circle times, they managed to grasp a good level of learning and comprehension of rainforests and the animals that live in them. They began by painting a cardboard box with various shades of green, then once it was dry they added leaves and foliage to create a nice rainforest scene. They had so much fun playing with it once it was done.

🐞 We did some yoga! It was rainforest themed of course! We’ve got a great book called ‘Sophie’s jungle adventure’ which follows a trek through the jungle where we stop every so often to complete jungle inspired yoga poses, such as ‘tree frog pose’, ‘monkey pose’ and the ‘sloth twist’.

🐞 A simple cooking activity that some of the children took part in this week was making fruit kebabs. The children got involved with peeling, chopping and skewering the fruit, which they then shared with their friends at snack time. We used strawberries, bananas, mango and pineapple. They looked and smelt absolutely delicious. Why not have a go at home? You can use any fruits you like and for a special treat why not add marshmallows or dip in chocolate, yoghurt and sprinkles!

🐞 It has been so hot so we’ve been trying our best to keep everyone cool. The children have enjoyed so much water play, ice play and especially enjoyed splashing around in our paddling pools and tuff trays. We appreciate you all being so understanding regarding our decision to close at 12 today and hope you all have a safe and cool weekend! ☀️ 🧊🍦 🏖️ 😎 🧢 👒 💦 👙 ☀️

🐞 This week at Ladybird…..

🐞 Our theme has been ‘Under the sea’

🐞 ‘The rainbow fish’ by Marcus Pfister is a lovely book which teaches the value of sharing and friendship in a way that young children can understand. The children loved listening to the story and were excited to make their own rainbow fish using foil and pastel crayons to take home.

🐞 Our craft and sensory activities have all followed a sea theme this week. From making octopuses with toilet roll tubes, crepe paper and sequin anemones and even sea urchin play dough, it’s made us all feel very summery and ready for summer! Remember to keep collecting your beach treasures to bring to show us at nursery if you get the chance!

🐞 Of course we are holding our sports day on Friday, so we have been practicing like mad! The children and staff are all really excited to see everyone and just have a fantastic afternoon together. It’s going to be great!

🐞 Have a great weekend! Lots of love to the Dad’s, Grandad’s, Grandpa’s etc for Sunday! 💙

🐞 This week at Ladybird…..

🐞 It was ‘child safety week’.

🐞 We looked at road safety. This is a very important subject for young children to think about and is something that they are involved with every day, so we thought it would be useful to talk about. We spoke about the importance of staying close to our grown ups when we cross the road, holding hands and making sure to ‘stop, look and listen’ before crossing. We demonstrated some examples of crossing the road safely and not so safely and the children loved calling out, telling us if they thought the adults were being safe or not. We also played a fun ‘stop and go’ game using traffic signs which was very exciting and also leant a new traffic light song which was so fun to sing!

🐞 The children had lots of fun and laughs whilst exploring sun safety. We set up an exploratory suitcase with lots of beach and sun safe objects and the children had to work out if they kept us safe or were just fun to play with! At Ladybird we firmly promote the use of sun cream, hats and long sleeves in the warmer weather and the children have a great understanding of the importance of sun safety already.

🐞 Our in the moment planning this week took us from making smoothies from play dough, to setting up a smoothie stall with menus and prices, to writing a shopping list, visiting Tesco and finally making and drinking real smoothies for snack! The children had so much fun with this and we are sure that it is something that they would love to do at home too. We kept it simple and used banana, strawberries, yoghurt and milk, but you could use any fruits that you like, frozen fruits work beautifully too! Let us know via Tapestry if you do! We would love to see your special creations!

🐞 It wouldn’t be child safety week without looking at firefighters, police officers and the RNLI, so there have been lots of discussions and activities that have focused on these special services this week. The children loved dressing up as firefighters and used hoses to put out chalk fires on the playground. We also had lots of fun making police cars, fire engines and lifeboats when junk modelling.

🐞 What a great first week back! Have a lovely weekend!
