🌳 This week at Friends 🌳
The children in our Pre-school room have been really enjoying exploring different shapes in their sand tray 🔴🟨🔷
This supports their curiosity, their math skills with starting to identify different shapes and their fine motor skills.
The children then extended their own play by hiding animals in the sand and started to use diggers to find the animals, meaning this went from a math activity to a small world activity 🚜🚧
I wonder what they will hide next..........................

This past weekend was The Big garden Birdwatch for the RSPB. Our babies decided to do some of their own bird watching when they went out to Forest school! 🐦
They went down to the pond and fed some ducks, spotted some pigeons and also spotted some other birds in the trees when they stopped for snack.
When they got back to nursery they looked at some of the toy birds we had and the loved when they squeezed the bird and it made lovely different bird songs! 🎶 They also used some gross motor skills to put the birds back in their nests 🪶

Meet Jaz!
Jaz is one of our incredible practitioners here at Friends, she works in our Pre-toddlers room!
Not only is Jaz working hard to gain her Level 3 in Early Education AND gain her Level 3 Forest School leaders qualification she is also decided that she is going to climb Mount Snowden for Charity this month! 🏔️
Jaz is raising money for Sarcoma UK which is an incredible charity close to her and the nurseries hearts. ❤️

This week in our Toddler room, the children have been exploring messy play surrounding The Gruffalo 🐾
The children have started to show an interest in the story and have been asking for the book to be read during circle time, following their interests the team extended their learning by making their sensory tray into foods from the story......... They had Owl Ice cream 🍦 Scrambled Snake 🐍 and Gruffalo Crumble 🥧 to explore. The staff used noodles with green dye, shaving foam and sand as well as lots of other fun sensory materials.
⭐This supports their fine and gross motor skills along with supporting their expressive arts and design as they explore different textures and materials.⭐
I wonder what their next messy play adventure will be..........

⭐ This term, the Toddlers and Pre-school children have been enjoying colour matching during their Sports4Kids sessions ⭐

⚽ Sports4Kids is an outside company that come in one day a week and do extra curricular activities with the children. These activities support the children's gross motor skills, math skills and their abilities to categorise/ match things that go together such as matching the colours. It also supports their listening and attention abilities as they listen to and follow the instructions of the games.

We look forward to finding out what games they will play this week!!

🌳 Our latest ventures to Forest School saw a stop on the way as our Pre-schoolers and Toddlers crossed the railway bridge. They all stopped to watch the train pass and loved waving as the train went under them 🚄
Once at forest school, the children were exploring the changes in the trees and weather as they noticed there were more leaves on the ground and that they were changing from green to brown 🍃🍂 This supports their development as they start to show an interest in growth and decay in their outside environment!!
