Sherborne Boys

Sherborne Boys Sherborne Boys. Independent boys boarding school, 13-18 years. Shirburnians are kind and compassionate yet eager to make their mark on the world.

Founded by King Edward VI in 1550, Sherborne Boys is a leading independent full boarding and day school. Sherborne Boys’ unique and strong partnership with Sherborne Girls offers the best of both worlds: single-sex education with social, co-curricular and academic collaborations. Sherborne Boys was rated as ‘excellent in all areas’ by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (2023). Sherborne lies in

the beautiful Dorset countryside with a direct train to and from London Waterloo. Sherborne Boys has eight boarding Houses and opens a state-of-the-art new Sports Hall this year. Among its notable alumni are Hugh Bonneville, Jeremy Irons, Chris Martin, Alan Turing and Tom Bradby. ‘Sherborne Forever’ is the message of its award-winning Old Shirburnian Society; once a boy joins the School, he forges friendships and is part of a network like no other. School’s out, but Sherborne is still buzzing… ☀️

The boys may be away, but the grounds have been, and still are, a hive of activity this summer!

🎶 Sherborne Summer School of Music is in full swing, with more recitals and concerts taking place next week across the BSR, Chapel and Cheap Street Church. Find the full programme via the link in our bio.

🌿 On 20 August, we’re opening up our grounds for ‘Glorious Gardens’ – a chance to wander through the spaces we’re so fortunate to call home and enjoy afternoon tea along the way. Everyone is welcome, and we’d particularly love to see Old Shirburnians and Sherborne families back at the School. Find the booking link in our bio.

🏉 And on 24 August, we’re looking forward to welcoming Bath Rugby to Sherborne for pre-season training, making use of our grounds and facilities.

There’s plenty happening at Sherborne this summer, even when the classrooms are quiet!

Head over to Sherborne Schools Enterprises to keep up to dates with events happening across the Group.

A huge congratulations to Old Shirburnian Jamie Guy (g 25), who has been selected to represent the Wales U21 Hockey squad at the European Championships in Plzeň, Czechia, starting next week. 🏑🏴.

After a year coaching hockey at Campbell College in Belfast, Jamie has earned his place through months of trials, training camps and warm-up fixtures, including sessions at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff and an Easter training camp in Frankfurt.

Having represented Wales at U18 level last year, Jamie now takes the next step onto the international stage. Before heading to Exeter University this autumn to study Business Economics, he’ll be competing against Scotland, Turkey and the host nation, Czechia, as Wales look to make their mark in the Euros.

We’re incredibly proud of Jamie and wish him every success.

It’s been almost three weeks since we celebrated a fitting end to another remarkable year at Sherborne 👏🏼

Looking back on Commemoration Day 2026, we are reminded how fortunate we are to bring our whole School community together to celebrate not only the boys’ achievements, but also the character, friendships and shared experiences that define life at Sherborne.

From Prizegiving in The Courts to a memorable service in the Abbey, it was a day of reflection, gratitude and celebration as we recognised all that has been accomplished this year ✨

Congratulations to all our prize winners, and thank you to our staff, families and the wider Sherborne community for your continued support. We wish our leavers every success as they begin their next chapter, and look forward to welcoming everyone back in September. 🙌🏼

A perfect way to round off a brilliant term of music.

Parents, families and friends joined us in the early evening sunshine for our Jazz Concert in the amphitheatre outside the Music School. With outstanding performances, a relaxed outdoor setting and plenty of end-of-term atmosphere, it was a wonderful celebration of our talented musicians.

Thank you to everyone who joined us.
