[Current teacher's experience sharing]
Hey guys! My name is Taylor, and I’ve been in Shanghai for three years now. When I came to China, I had no knowledge of the Chinese language, people, and very limited cultural knowledge to fall back on. To me, it made the first few months a more exciting adventure. My initial plan was to stay for a year, save some money to pay off some student loans, then head back to the States to start a teaching career.

However, I quickly realized that I enjoyed Shanghai too much to leave after just one year. I felt like I had barely scratched the surface of the culture and language here. And even though teaching children was never my first occupational choice, it was ok enough to keep trying.

After the company I worked for closed down, though, I needed a new job quickly. I joined Webi English the next month, began teaching adults—which is infinitely better than teaching children—and immediately enjoyed the benefits. My coworkers were really good, the students were and are still fantastic, the managers were so easy to communicate with, and the overall environment was incredibly relaxed. It was a perfect fit for me.

A year after starting at Webi English, I became the Head Teacher at my center. Another year after that, I joined the HR staff to recruit other foreigners to teach at Webi English. Coming to China has been by far the best decision I’ve made in my entire life. And while it takes a little bit of courage to take that first step and move to a completely different environment, it has the potential to become the most life-changing decision you could make…in a good way, of course!
