We believe that young people who challenge the system don’t need punishment, they need understanding.

We challenge the idea that "difficult" students are problems to be fixed.
Instead, we see them as individuals with stories, strengths, and potential.

Our staff use creativity, flexibility, and empathy to meet students where they are, and help them move forward.

From visual support to flexible timetables, everything we offer is shaped by one question: What does this young person need to thrive?

06/08/2025

Since opening in 2018, Osmis has supported some of the most vulnerable young people across Sheffield and beyond.

We’re a popular choice for schools and care partners who value our personalised approach, frequent communication, and proven ability to re-engage students who’ve struggled elsewhere.

Whether a young person is at risk of permanent exclusion or experiencing ongoing school refusal, we build a plan that works, and stick with them every step of the way.

Some students need more than classroom learning. They need space to grow, express, and rebuild at their own pace.

Osmis offers bespoke, meaningful activities, everything from sports and creative arts to practical skill-building, all tailored to the young person’s interests and needs. These experiences help rebuild self-esteem, develop emotional regulation, and reignite a love of learning.

This isn’t an escape from education, it’s education that works for them.

Our goal isn’t just to support students, it’s to help them move forward.

After a minimum of 12 weeks at Osmis, students may begin a structured, phased reintegration into mainstream school or another setting. This is never rushed. Instead, it’s done in full consultation with the student, mentor, family, and school.

We look at emotional readiness, engagement, and progress, ensuring any return to school is stable, supported, and sustainable. If reintegration isn’t appropriate, we explore alternative long-term solutions with the same care and attention.

When a young person arrives at Osmis, they are paired with a carefully matched mentor, someone who can understand, support, and challenge them in the right way.

Our mentoring model is about more than just learning.

It’s about rebuilding confidence, forming healthy relationships, and creating new aspirations. Mentors work with students to set goals, reflect on behaviours, and grow their emotional and academic independence.

We apply Unconditional Positive Regard and positive behaviour strategies in every session, making sure each young person is seen not for what they've done, but who they can become.

Growing up is tough, and for some young people, mainstream school simply doesn’t meet their needs.

Osmis exists to fill those gaps.

As a trusted Alternative Provision in Sheffield, we provide 1:1 mentoring, small group work, and respite support tailored to the individual. We support students facing challenges such as school-based trauma, SEND, SEMH, anxiety, or home pressures that impact behaviour and attendance.

Every intervention is built on open communication with schools and care partners. From the moment a young person joins us, we track progress, adapt plans and prepare for reintegration or transition into future pathways.

Over 135,000 pupils are educated in Alternative Provision every year — and for good reason. (DfE, 2023)

Schools turn to Osmis when a student needs:

✅ More emotional or behavioural support
✅ A trauma-informed environment
✅ Bespoke education plans
✅ Reintegration planning
✅ Contact or respite sessions
✅ Help re-engaging with learning

We don’t just “fill a gap” — we build bridges.

From 1:1 mentoring to real-world work placements, Osmis supports every young person at their pace, in their way — with consistent collaboration between school, family, and mentor.
