✨🌿 BELTANE IN THE
WOODS🌿✨
This week, our woodland was filled with magic as we celebrated entity[“festival”,“Beltane”,“Celtic festival”] — an ancient Celtic festival marking the turning of the seasons, the return of warmth, light and life, and the joyful arrival of summer. 🌞🌱
The children wandered through carpets of flowering wild garlic, its sweet garlicky scent drifting through the trees, and carefully gathered blossoms to make shimmering fairy potions beside the river. Mixing petals, water, leaves and imagination together created the most beautiful sensory play — rich with textures, smells, colours and wonder. 🌿🧚♀️
We paddled barefoot in the cool flowing river, splashed in the sunlight and felt the earth beneath our feet. Barefoot walking — often called “grounding” or “earthing” — helps children connect with the natural world through touch, balance and movement. It supports physical development by strengthening little muscles in the feet and legs, improves balance and coordination, and can help regulate the nervous system, bringing feelings of calm, connection and wellbeing. 💧🦶✨
Among the wildflowers, we created a tiny fairy shrine using lilac blossoms, candles and treasures from the woodland. We offered the fairies milk and honey — a tradition deeply rooted in Celtic folklore, where offerings were once left for nature spirits and the “Good Folk” as gestures of gratitude, respect and harmony with the land. In many old stories, Beltane was believed to be a time when the veil between worlds was thin, and people would honour the spirits of nature to invite blessings, protection and abundance for the coming season. 🍯🌸
The children also transformed our sari fabrics into woodland swings, learning how to balance, hold tight, trust their bodies and soar high between the trees. Swinging supports vestibular development — the body’s sense of movement and balance — helping children build coordination, core strength, spatial awareness and confidence. The laughter echoing through the woods was pure joy. 🌳💫
We shared a Beltane feast together beneath the trees, celebrating community, friendship and togetherness — all at the heart of this ancient festival. Sitting together outdoors encourages children to slow down, connect, communicate and develop a sense of belonging within their little woodland community. 🌼
