Join us for this mindful day, starting with a gentle walk in Ecclesall woods, taking in the surroundings and collecting inspiration to take back to the workshop.

Back in the workshop you will lay out your collected items or look at your photos or sketches to see what elements could be translated into metal.

You will begin by experimenting with some of the tools and techniques in the workshop to explore ideas before making your finished pieces to take away.

ANODISED NIOBIUM WORKSHOP
with Alice Fry | Contemporary Niobium Jewellery and Silverware

We are so excited to have Alice coming to teach her anodised niobium workshop at Studio Budgie 🥳 and have just a few spaces left for our November dates.

This is a unique opportunity to come and learn about the science involved in anodising niobium and create a beautiful colourful piece to take away. We welcome complete beginners as well as those with experience looking for something a little different.

ART IN THE GARDENS 2026

What a fab weekend. Thanks to all the brilliant organisers and our lovely neighbours.
We forgot to take any photos except for these 2 when we were awarded with one of ten gold awards for best presented stand 😀

Thank you to everyone that came and said hello and chatted to us about jewellery workshops. Back to teaching next weekend.

We had a wonderful day ℝ𝕖𝕟𝕚𝕤𝕙𝕒𝕨 ℍ𝕒𝕝𝕝 & 𝔾𝕒𝕣𝕕𝕖𝕟𝕤 on Sunday. It is so good to get out of the workshop and talk to all the lovely folk about what we do.

The good news is we are doing it again this coming weekend at Art in the Gardens. Come and see Jules and Melissa at LM23 and chat to us about our classes and workshops.

SEPTEMBER CLASSES 💎

Our regular weekly classes will start again in September and we have a few spaces on Monday & Thursday evenings 😀

Your first 6 weeks will be an introduction to the workshop and some traditional techniques used to make earrings, pendants and rings (or small objects if you prefer). We welcome beginners and those with some experience.

COPPER LOVE 🧡

There were some lovely copper pieces made in the workshop last term. One of the best things about this lovely metal is all of the beautiful colours 🌈

RECYCLING SILVER ♻️

In the workshop we have talked a lot about melting silver for reuse. This is a low tech process if you don’t have loads of fancy equipment. 1 will become wire and 1 will become sheet

Some tips below 👇

♻️ Use a charcoal block. You can scratch out texture or burrow out sections to help control the shape.

♻️ Use clean scrap for the best results. Thes are all offcuts from other projects.

♻️ Make sure you use the appropriate torch/flame. This handheld is mightier than it looks. Bigger isn’t always better.

♻️ Keep it to a reasonable size. Don’t melt all of your scrap in one go, it’s much harder to get a usable piece.

♻️ Always hammer the piece before trying to put it through the mill. You will usually see cracks appear if there is any contamination.

♻️ Anneal in between hammering/milling
