🚧 IMPORTANT ACCESS UPDATE 🚧

Please be aware that the pedestrian footpath alongside the rear of the nursery is currently CLOSED.

There is currently a large excavation with exposed electricity cables in this area. Barriers are in place and the area must not be accessed.

For the safety of children, families and visitors, please use the main footpath from Vikinglea Road and enter the nursery via the car park to access the main entrance.

Please allow a little extra time and follow the temporary signage when arriving and leaving the nursery.

Time for School?

Now is the time of year that parents of children born between the 1st September 2022 and the 31st August 2023 should be applying for a school place in the 2027/28 Reception year group. Parents who do not make an on-time application are far less likely to obtain a place at one of their preferred schools.

Parents can make their application using either of the following methods:

• On-line at: www.sheffield.gov.uk/schools-childcare
• By paper form which can be downloaded at the above website or can be requested by telephoning (0114) 2735766.

Important Dates
Applications invited from: 7th September 2026
On-line site closes: 11th December 2026 (noon)
Closing date: 15th January 2027
Offer date: 16th April 2027

🏗️ A little work behind the scenes at Manor Community Childcare Centre! 🚜

Over the next few weeks, you may notice contractors working around the nursery site as we begin installing our new perimeter security fencing.

This is an important investment in our nursery and will help us create a safer, more secure environment for our children, families and staff. The new fencing will also help us protect our grounds and building from the ongoing issues with unauthorised access and anti-social behaviour that we have experienced.

🧱 We know that having contractors on site may cause a little disruption while the work is taking place, but we will do everything we can to keep disruption to families, visitors and our neighbours to an absolute minimum and maintain safe access to the nursery throughout the works.

The work will be carried out in stages and there may be some temporary changes to access around the site. We will keep parents and visitors informed if there are any significant changes that affect you.

We would also kindly ask our local families, visitors and residents to respect the site and the contractors while the work is underway, and please do not enter areas that have been temporarily closed or cordoned off. 🚧

We are really pleased to be able to make this investment in Manor Community Childcare Centre and look forward to seeing the finished result.

🌞 HEATWAVE UPDATE 🌞

Good morning.

This afternoon we are expecting temperatures to soar to 33°
We are of course doing everything we can to keep the children comfortable but despite our best efforts the childcare room temperatures are too high.

We are asking parents/carers if you have flexibility this afternoon to please collect your child early and help us to keep numbers as low as possible.

We are also asking parents with afternoon sessions to consider if you require childcare this afternoon. If not, we would really appreciate you keeping them at home on this occasion.

🌞 Heatwave Update 🌞

We wanted to provide a quick update as we continue to experience exceptionally hot weather this week.

The wellbeing of our children and staff remains our absolute priority. Throughout the day, we are adapting activities to help everyone stay as comfortable as possible, including providing plenty of water play, encouraging regular drinks, and reducing physically demanding activities during the hottest parts of the day.

Despite our best efforts with fans and ventilation, temperatures within the nursery remain very high and conditions are uncomfortable for both children and staff. Young children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of heat, and we are doing everything we can to ensure they remain safe, hydrated and happy.

If you have flexibility over the remainder of the week and are able to keep your child at home, we would appreciate you considering this option. Fewer children in attendance allows us to focus our resources more effectively and helps create a more comfortable environment for everyone during this period of extreme temperatures.

We completely understand that many families need childcare for work and, of course, we will continue to provide the highest standard of care for all children who need to attend.

☀️ **Hot Weather Information for Parents & Carers** ☀️

With the hot weather set to continue over the coming days, we'd like to ask for your help in ensuring all children stay safe, comfortable and protected while enjoying their time at nursery.

Young children can be particularly affected by high temperatures, so we'd appreciate your support with the following:

👕 Please dress your child in light, loose-fitting clothing suitable for warm weather

👒 Send your child with a named sun hat for outdoor play

🧴 Apply sun cream before arriving at nursery and provide a named bottle if re-application may be needed during the day

🥤 Please provide a named water bottle for your child to encourage them to stay hydrated throughout the day

Our staff will be taking extra precautions during the hot weather, including encouraging regular drinks, making full use of canopies/shaded areas, and adapting activities where necessary to keep children comfortable.

🌡️ We understand that very high temperatures can be difficult for some children. If you feel your child would be more comfortable at home during the hottest part of the heatwave, we will fully support that decision.
