The Edge Of The Universe Printing Press is a Sheffield-based DIY printing press. We support others in making zines and putting words/pictures on paper.

We give people the tools and skills to write, print, publish and share their own work. We do this by running writing, printing, and self-publishing workshops and projects - often in collaboration with other organisations (we like making friends). We've worked with universities, schools, youth organisations, charities, and businesses to help them make prints and publications in an accessible, afford

We're super-psyched to have an article in the latest issue of the wondrous Shelf Heroes!

A gorgeously illustrated and designed celebration of all things film, this brilliantly curated zine is also a true labour of love for its ace founder, Ben. There's TONNES of good stuff in this issue, which covers all H-related movie goings on from La Haine to Heathers to Heavenly Creatures, and you can grab a copy here: http://shelfheroes.com/shop/shelf-heroes-issue-g-3d92b

The more copies sold, the more likely Ben will be able to produce issue I. Oh, and Stack subscribers will get a copy flopping through their letterbox come November - hooray!

ISSUE H IS OUT NOW!!! 166 pages of illustrations, articles, stories and poetry inspired by movies beginning with the letter H. Our fattest issue yet, and definitely our best. Get your copy from the Shelf Heroes store NOW, and they’ll be shipped this weekend. So much awesome work in here, hope you like it.

Alert, alert! The awesome Print Collective at the equally awesome DIY Space for London are taking open submissions for their first ever quarterly zine! It's going to be printed in beautiful blue ink on their riso, so is sure to look bloody gorge.

All blue-themed submissions, be they text, image or illustration, will be considered - so get submitting!

SUBMISSION OPPORTUNITY: DSFL QUARTERLY ZINE!

The print collective are looking to create, collaborate and have fun with Riso.
So….we are starting a quarterly Riso zine together!

We are excited to receive as many contributions as we can.
Submissions are open to everybody in the first of what’s hoped to be a long series.

The riso at DIY Space uses 5 inks. Red, blue, fluro pink, yellow and black. To make it easy and fun to produce artwork, we’re going to limit ourselves to one colour each issue. The first issue will be released on 1st September. Copies will be for sale and display in DIY Space, and at zine libraries around the country.

The theme for the first issue, is BLUE

*・゚゚・*:.。..。.:*゚:*:✼✿

You can interpret this any way you like, through text, photograph or illustrations.

The only requirements are:

1) your submission is inkeeping with the principles of the DIY Space accountability agreement. (full document at https://diyspaceforlondon.org/accountability/..in summary, it is an agreement to support and hold ourselves and others accountable)

2) the work will be A5 portrait or A4 landscape. Suitable for printing in (dark) blue ink, on riso.
We will be using different colors of paper to create variety.

Please submit work as a pdf / png file, at no less than 300dpi (unless low res is part of your artwork). The image should be greyscale, with (at least) a 3mm white border around the edge of your artwork or text.

The riso will struggle to print large areas of 100% opacity, so avoid any 100% black shapes over a side of A5 (if this is confusing, don't worry, and email in)

*・゚゚・*:.。..。.:*゚:*:✼✿

We’ll also be holding weekly zine club sessions (Monday evening) where we can make work together. The idea is to explore and learn about what we can do with riso, so please don't be put off if you never used it before.

*・゚゚・*:.。..。.:*゚:*:✼✿

Email entries to: [email protected] with questions and submissions.

*・゚゚・*:.。..。.:*゚:*:✼✿

The cutoff date for submission is midnight the 11th August for a release date on the 1st September.

Had a brilliant time last night running a drop in poetry workshop at the newly opened Rainbow Heron Cafe. Based at Regather, this weekly late night cafe promotes wellbeing though providing a safe space to sit, read, play games, talk, relax, and take part in art activities... Which is where we came in!

We did erasure poetry, messed around with magnetic words, and played games to create epic collaborative poems. It was great!

Massive thanks to all the wonderful staff and volunteers at Rainbow Heron for having us - and a very special thanks to Charly, the cafe's brilliant project coordinator, for asking is to get involved!

Really excited to play around with words at the wonderful Rainbow Heron late night cafe on Sunday night!

We've got books to artfully deface, magnetic poetry to splay all over the place, and are currently fashioning a makeshift beanbag - for reasons to be revealed...!

RAINBOW HERON CAFE NEXT WEEK

UPSTAIRS:
We've got a treat this week! Our awesome friend Sarah Christie (Edge Of The Universe Printing Press) is coming to the cafe to make writing fun:

Hate writing? Think “you’re not creative”? No worries! During this session, we’ll be creating poetry – but not like you know it. We’ll be playing games, messing about with words, and using glue, scissors, and maybe even some glitter to get up close and personal with poems!
The session will be a fun, supportive, and non-judgemental space to explore your ideas, thoughts, and feelings – which you can then share with others, or keep to yourself. It’s completely up to you!

DOWNSTAIRS:

Late Night Art Cafe: EVERY SUNDAY 7:30PM - 11:30PM @ Regather

Come along drink tea, play games, get creative, read a book, chat to a volunteer, its up to you!
We are here to support young people and promote good mental health through peer support and creativity.

Thinking of coming down to the cafe but a bit nervous? You can message us or e-mail [email protected], if you have any questions.
