⚔️ Big update in the AVA Spanish Platform! ⚔️

Three new things have arrived in the Kingdom… 🏰

1. Las Torres del Reino (The Towers of the Kingdom). A brand-new challenge! Answer one Spanish question per floor and climb as high as you can, against the clock. Beat the bosses, earn XP & Gold, and top the leaderboard. And for the truly brave… La Torre Maldita 💀 (The Cursed Tower). One heart, a faster clock, harder questions. One mistake and it’s over. ¿Te atreves?

I’ve currently added a total of 205 questions divided in easy, easy-medium, medium, medium-hard and hard levels, the higher you climb the harder the questions.

I planned this feature in purpose to be stressful, my other features you can take as long as you want to answer, but with Las Torres, I want you to feel the moment of adrenaline and rush as if you were having a real conversation with someone and you only had a few seconds to think what to answer. My idea is for you to learn through repetition but also to have plenty of questions that each run feels different. And fear not, I will keep adding new questions 😈

2. New achievements!🏅I added 28 in total. You will have to climb milestones, boss feats, no-damage runs, be brave enough to enter La Torre Maldita, and even a few secret ones hidden for you to discover. Can you unlock them all? 👀

3. A redesigned map 🗺️ The Mapa del Reino was getting a little crowded, so I’ve rebuilt it into clear themed regions to make the Kingdom easier to explore. Still plenty more to come!

Today marks the official end of exam season for all my GCSE and A-Level Spanish students (¡hemos sobrevivido un año más!)

One of my students gave me this mug as a present (muchas gracias 👀), and I did have the thought that the legends are my students and all the students who choose Spanish for GCSE and A-Level, who sat down and revised verb tables, essay structures, cultural topics, crazy expressions and exam techniques, who showed up even when it was hard (otherwise la chancla would have come after them 🩴), who walked into the exam hall and gave it everything, and also who coped with me for an entire year (some even more than just one year) 😍

It takes real courage and real commitment to learn a new language. I don’t and won’t ever take it for granted. You guys choosing this path in life are just build different.

To those continuing with Spanish in September, I will see you soon, and I can’t wait to keep teaching you. To those whose Spanish journey ends here, I hope you keep learning on your own free time, even if it’s slowly and pasito a pasito! Either way, thank you all for making this year special, it’s been an absolute pleasure teaching every single one of you.

This July (2026), I'm planning to offer intensive Spanish courses to help students get ahead before September, and I'd love to know if there's interest before finalising the details.

Whether you're a parent looking to give your child a head-start, a GCSE or A-Level student wanting to walk into next year feeling confident, or an adult wanting to actually use your Spanish abroad, I'd love to hear from you.

Possible options on the table:
• 1-on-1 lessons (online and/or in-person in Sheffield)
• Small group online classes (split by age and level)
• Small group in-person classes (split by age and level - in Sheffield)
• Across 3 weeks in July (Monday 13th of July to Friday 31st of July)

What to expect: Relaxed conversation in small groups. Spanish and English speakers paired up. All levels welcome, this round focused on the speaking, we can leave the grammar explanations for the classes! Meet new people with a shared goal and passion for languages!

Starting with a speaking card game, I will then give you topics and prompts to speak in Spanish/English with others.

Bring yourself, your curiosity, and I’d recommend a notebook or something to write the new words and expressions you will learn!

📜 NEW: Las Crónicas del Reino are LIVE (*por fin = finally*)
Read real Spanish, articles, stories, book extracts and more. Answer 10 comprehension questions to prove you understood it, with an optional 11th where you share your opinion on the topic and I personally read it and correct your grammar.
Get enough right and you unlock 4 new words into your Léxico del Reino per article. 13 articles are live right now, that’s 52 new words to collect. More coming regularly but poco a poco (I read every article before to make sure it actually works as a reading exercise).
This might be my favourite feature yet, so I hope you enjoy it! 💜

📖 UPDATE: El Léxico del Reino, your own dictionary
We’ve grown from 233 to 285 words! The original 233 are still unlockable with Cofre de Palabras at La Tienda (using gold you earn from exercises). The new ones? Those come from smashing the Crónicas reading exercises. True collectors are going to have to do it all 😈

✍️ REMINDER: Redacciones del Reino is live too
Write essays on the given topics and I’ll personally correct them, real feedback on your mistakes and how to improve. Corrections follow Patreon tier order during busy times, but if I have more free time, I’ll correct whatever comes in. I genuinely love reading and correcting essays! (Sí, tengo problemas, lo sé)

The platform is, and stays, 100% FREE to play. Patreon is purely optional, for anyone who wants to help AVA Spanish keep growing. There are paid tiers (last photo), but you can also join free and still get perks.

The photo shows my weekly ZUMBA® classes at University of Sheffield with the ZUMBA® Society!

We started only as 10ish people back in the beginning of 2020 (we carried on online with Zoom classes through that virus we all remember 😅) and currently, as you see, this is a normal Tuesday evening for us now! It’s a group that keeps on growing more and more every year.

I also run local weekly classes in Hillsborough where I live, at Courtside Hillsborough for anyone who wants that same energy closer to home, and I promise the energy is the same whether we’re 1 or 80. Some of the best sessions have been with just a handful of people!

ZUMBA® is genuinely one of the best cardio workouts, no dance background needed, I adapt everything to whoever’s in the room, whatever your fitness level is. (And la música is great 😍).
I do have to say the more times you do it, the harder your workout can be, as you slowly learn the choreography! But that means it’s also more fun to do!
