Squirrels Leap Nursery

Squirrels ice cream shop has moved locations to the garden. They are loving playing cafes and turn taking to play the shop assistant.

Quite a lot of food seems to be free though 🤔 I think I need to work on their business sense.

The penultimate theme is always chosen by the children and this is the one they wanted to revisit.

In the hottest week so far this year it seems very apt to welcome you all to Squirrels Ice Cream Parlour and Cafe.

Flower arranging that most likely will become potion making before I’ve even finished …… oh well never mind. I was wrong anyway, they’re making lava salad.

Look what we found in the nursery garden today. We sometimes see them in the ponds nearby but not that often in the garden.

Edit: according to inaturalist it is a salamander not a newt. Another one today. That’s really pleasing to see.

Our very own ‘tiny tin squire’ also known as Sir Bob came today and showed off her armour.

Making heraldry and painting the design onto our shields today. 🛡️

Today we are recreating the battle of Bosworth 1485. Let’s see who may win? We’re learning quite a lot about our ancestors who lived many many years ago. We’ve looked at historical money, quills, clothes, shoes (smells), instruments and food.

Trying on some pieces of armour and working out how the go and move and why they have been made that way.

Bill drill at the ready and now we have a squirrels army ready to defend the nursery against all who try to attack it.

I wonder what the theme is this week in the nursery? This one is a favourite. We have so many things to show them, let them hold and investigate. We’ll be helping the children to understand a bit of history, try some archeology, make a quill and learn some sword skills.
