His first comment was “ who’s next?”

There has been two fatalities on a boxing show in Japan 🇯🇵
Both were caused by brain haemorrhages
In this case I would say that it was not JUST the fight that caused the brain damage but all the sparring building up to it .
Some fight gyms
1. Spar too much
2. Spar too heavy
3. Try to “ win” in sparring
Another side effect of sparring is developing
“ glass jaw”
Getting knocked out is a reflex your body learns
When you have taken too many head shots
Your brain decides to switch off basically telling you to give your body a break.
The result is :
YOU GET KNOCKED OUT!!!!
if you’ve been sparring heavy for a few years then you can expect a fight record including a few knockout losses because your body will be defending you from yourself.
As a result
At AFK we do
1. Light sparring
2 . Dutch glove drills
3. Body sparring
All of the above are much superior to heavy open sparring and any gym that pushes it is to be avoided at all costs!!!
My sincere condolences to the families of the boxers and please follow the advice of AFK Instructors to keep sparring
1. To a minimum
2. Reduce the contact levels
It doesn’t matter if you THINK you’re going light . If your partner drops to the floor then
The answer is simple:
ITS TOO HEAVY!!!!
SPAR SAFE !!!
NOT HARD!!!
