Daytime specialist SEND tutoring availability

I currently have some daytime availability for 1:1 specialist tutoring in Sheffield and surrounding areas.

I work with children and young people who are home educated, have EOTAS provision, are unable to access school at the moment, or who need a more individual approach to learning.

For me, tutoring is about getting to know the child first — their strengths and interests, how they communicate, what they find difficult and what helps them feel comfortable enough to engage with learning.

Sessions are individually planned and can work towards academic learning, communication, confidence, EHCP outcomes, independence and other areas that are important to the child and family.

Being understood comes first.

Thanks to funding from the Farming in Protected Landscape (FiPL) funding, we have a limited number of free, two-hour farm tours available for community groups between now and Christmas.

🌈 Sensory Ideas to support reading confidence and increase attention.
Today we used a simple sensory setup to help a child who’s lost his confidence in reading — and it was a huge success.

We used a tray of objects alongside CVC words, high‑frequency words he can already read, and extra objects with initial letter sounds for him to guess. Because he loves to play, the reading became part of the game: he needed to read in order to explore, choose, match and build up the activity. The anticipation and hands‑on element kept him engaged and smiling throughout.

Once he’d finished, we used the same sensory setup for maths — taking away from 10 using Numicon. Again, he was fully involved, moving pieces, counting, checking and enjoying every step.

Sometimes the right sensory approach unlocks confidence across subjects. Today was a brilliant reminder of how powerful playful learning can be.😊

Meet C. I have been working with C for over a year now. He is 13 years old, preverbal, has been out of school for nearly 3 years and has a diagnosis of severe learning impairment, ASC and early development impairment. He has been using AAC on an iPad 📱 over the last 15 months for his communication, building up core words each week.
One of C's targets is for him to be able to get out of the car 🚗 and for him to be regulated so that he can explore and engage in the world, because for the last few years he has stopped doing this. Over the last 3 months, with the support of his family ❤️, he has made amazing steps forward.
He has succeeded in getting in a new car (mine), getting out of mine and into Dad’s car (his safe space) 🚙 using ‘find’ ‘car’ & ‘Dad’ on his device, extended this in new places and familiar ones, and over the last few weeks he has been accessing Sheffield Cycling 4 All at Hillsborough on a side by side tandem 🚴‍♂️.
The last 2 weeks he has shown even more progress, with C starting to pedal and also understanding and accepting the end of the session through visual support ‘last one’ ‘bikes finished’. We know he really enjoys the bikes and that it is one of his favourite activities because he presses 'like' on his device independently.

Next steps include: • accessing the bikes from Dad’s car 🚗➡️🚴‍♂️ • accessing bikes in different locations 📍 • continuing to increase how long he is pedalling for ⏱️ • increasing the use of his iPad to support communication on which way to go and what speed 📱➡️🚴‍♂️
