We are all set up for our FREE music taster day, Learn To Play tomorrow!

The team have been busy setting up all of our "Give It A Go" instrument stalls and getting the practice rooms ready for our teachers.

We have 117 pre-registered young musicians joining us tomorrow, and we can't wait to welcome them to Red Tape Central to try out instruments, make music and discover something new.

If you haven't signed up for a specific lesson, you're still very welcome to pop into Red Tape Central and have a go at any of the instruments on offer.

We have brass, string, woodwind and guitar stalls!

We're delighted to announce that school sign-up is now completely full for One Voice Christmas 2026! 🎄🎶

This November, hundreds of young singers from across Sheffield will come together at the iconic Victoria Hall for two days of festive singing!

Over the coming weeks, participating schools will begin learning this year’s repertoire with support from our fantastic Vocal Music Leader, Kate Shipway, before joining together for spectacular massed performances as one huge choir.

We recently welcomed teachers to The Foundry for our festive CPD session, swipe to see them getting into the spirit.

Thank you to Concord Youth Music for their generous donation of Samba equipment. Our Samba bands will be playing them this Wednesday!

Concord's Samba drums are off to a new home.

Sheffield Music Hub has a a growing number of groups playing Samba so, as we have not used these for some time, we have donated them so that more children in schools can enjoy them.

Exciting news! We are hosting our first-ever KS5 Music Open Evening with providers from across the city.

Tuesday 20th October
6:30pm - 7:30pm

Sheffield Music Hub is committed to supporting young musicians as they transition from GCSE and BTEC Music in years 10 and 11 to A Level or further BTEC Music in Years 12 and 13. It can be difficult to know what opportunities are available to continue studying music after GCSE, so we want to help young people explore the different sixth forms and colleges across Sheffield that offer music courses.

This is our first KS5 Music Open Evening, and we hope it will become a regular fixture in the Sheffield Music Hub calendar.

GCSE and BTEC Music numbers in Sheffield have been rising over the past two years, and we are proud to be a city that is bucking the national trend. Something exciting is happening, and we want to help young musicians continue that momentum as they move into post-16 education.

Learn To Play FREE Music Day - Slots filling fast, final FREE lesson and FREE music group taster session places remaining!

Join us on Saturday 10th October, 10am - 4pm for a day of FREE music-making at Learn To Play 2026.

Several of our most popular activities have already sold out, including individual Acoustic Guitar, Clarinet, Drums, Electric Guitar, Flute, Piano/Keyboard, Recorder and Saxophone taster lessons, as well as our Mini Music Makers taster session.

However, we still have FREE instrumental taster lessons available on:
• Cornet, Baritone, Euphonium, Trombone and Trumpet
• Violin, Cello and Double Bass

To meet demand for guitar and piano lessons, we've also added small group guitar and piano sessions for up to five young musicians, with places still available.

We also have FREE music group taster sessions available:
• Mini Voices Choir (Years 1-2) | 11am - 12pm
• Samba Band (Years 3-13) | 1pm - 2pm
• Beginner Recorder Club (Years 2-6) | 2:30pm - 3pm
If your young musician isn’t sure which instrument to try, they can simply pop in to our FREE "Give it a Go" instrument stalls and have a go on a wide range of instruments. No booking required!

For the past three years, Sheffield Music Hub has taken part in Music for All’s annual Learn to Play campaign, helping children, young people and families discover the joy of making music through free taster lessons, workshops and group activities 🌟

We spoke to Wallis Leahy from Music for All and Rory Evans from Sheffield Music Hub about how national support and local opportunities can work together to inspire people to take their first musical steps. 🎶

Thank you to The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation for supporting our young musicians. Without their support some of our young musicians wouldn't have been able to go on tour to France!

GRANT NEWS 🎶 A message of thanks: Thanks to a generous grant from the Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation, young musicians from Sheffield Music Hub were able to take part in a special tour of Normandy, France, with the Sheffield Music Hub Festival Band and Concordia Voices choir.

The funding helped cover the cost of the tour for young musicians who would otherwise have found it difficult to take part. For them, the opportunity was about much more than performing overseas — it was a chance to make music with their friends, experience a different culture and create memories that will stay with them for years to come.

The tour was a huge success, with the young musicians performing a series of concerts across Normandy and enjoying a packed itinerary of musical and cultural experiences.

A parent of one of the young musicians supported by the grant described what the opportunity meant to their child: “Thanks to The Sarah Nulty Foundation Grant, my child was able to go on the tour. We cannot thank you enough for that. They had the best time, playing music and making friends. They love playing music and these will be memories that stay with them forever.”

The trip also provided some unexpected opportunities. During one of the concerts, the musicians were discovered by a BBC Radio 4 team who were recording material for a documentary about the Bayeux Tapestry. The group’s performance was recorded and subsequently featured as part of the programme.

For the young musicians involved, the tour was a wonderful celebration of their hard work, dedication and love of music — and an experience they will remember long after returning home.

The Sheffield Music Hub team would like to extend an enormous thank you to the Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation for helping make this possible and for enabling young people to access an experience that might otherwise have been beyond their reach.

🏃‍♀️ Sheffield Music Hub Takes on the Sheffield 10K!

On Sunday, Sheffield Music Hub staff, parents, friends and current students will be taking part in the Sheffield 10K to raise money for music education and progression opportunities for children and young people across Sheffield.

A special mention goes to Rachel Greene, one of our Music Leaders and Young Sounds Lead, who set herself a fundraising target of £250, enough to cover the cost of a year's place in one of our music groups.
We're delighted to say that Rachel has already smashed her target, but there's still time to support her fundraising and help more young people access musical opportunities.

We're also cheering on Keith Nockels, who is fundraising for our Connect Programme, supporting children and young people from low income families to continue learning a musical instrument.
