When I trained to become a PT nearly 10 years ago, weighing clients before a gym session was common practice.

In fact, it was pretty much expected. So yes, I am guilty of it in the past 🤦🏼

We'd take clients into a little staff room or store cupboard, get the scales out and weigh them.

Looking back now, I find that whole practice pretty bloody barbaric 😱

And it's one of the things I've completely changed my mind about as a coach.

I don't weigh my clients before PT - and there are a few reasons why:

1. I want you well fed and fuelled before you train with me. I don't want you skipping breakfast or eating less because you know you're going to be weighed.

2. I also want you dressed. 😂

If you are monitoring your bodyweight - thats absolutely fine - but do it naked, first thing in the morning, before you've eaten or drunk anything. That will be the most accurate measure... and that's definitely not how I want to welcome you into the gym 😂😂

You don't need to be a strong to start...

In fact, a lot of the women who train with me had never even stepped foot in a gym before they joined Mud & Muscle.

They didn't know how to squat or deadlift (or what they even were). Some were nervous about walking into a gym in the first place, and plenty didn't see themselves as particularly sporty.

Which is exactly why I love what I do.

Because fast forward a few months and they're picking up weights they never imagined they'd lift, doing things they genuinely didn't think they were capable of, and becoming the sort of people who actually enjoy going to the gym!

🏆 I might be World's Strongest Woman, but nobody who joins me is expected to train like I do or arrive already knowing what they're doing.

(I certainly didnt when I started)!

You just need to be willing to give it a go and I'll take care of the rest 🙏

And whether your version of getting stronger is learning to use a barbell for the first time, doing your first push-up, or simply walking into the gym feeling like you actually belong there... it all counts. 💪

⚡️ SHEFFIELD PRIDE DEADLIFT PARTY IS BACK… and we’re bringing the noise! 🏳️‍🌈🔥

On Saturday 26th September, I’ll be heading to the Sheffield Pride Deadlift Party...and this marks 3 years volunteering as chief bar loader 😉💪✨

The Deadlift Party is more than just a day of lifting heavy. It’s a celebration of LGBTQ+ strength, visibility and community, whilst aiming to raise at least £2000 to support Sheffield Palestine Cultural Exchange (SPaCE) 🏳️‍🌈❤️

What started as a celebration of strength and belonging has become one of my favourite events of the year. It’s a place where everyone is welcome — whether you’re a seasoned lifter, brand new to the barbell, or just want to come along and cheer people on.

This year I’m bringing some of my clients down too — some to spectate, some to get involved and take on the deadlift platform themselves!

I’ve been trying to find the right words, but I don’t think there are any really.

I worked with Alice for 2 and a half years as her coach, but over the last 12 months, when my personal life started going through big changes she became a friend (and cocktail buddy 🍸)

She was always up for a laugh, always game for a group social, and loved having a big deadlift! 🔥

A highly regarded member of the team. Her energy, laughter and kindness will be missed by so many in Mud & Muscle.

I’ll be sure to raise a glass to you my friend🥃🥃 cheers!

This is exactly why I do what I do 💪

As a woman, being "strong" isn’t just a look.

It’s a mindset to break through stereotypical norms.

Its a new standard of life that you set yourself,

and it will positively impact every area of your life, not just in the gym.

So I forgot my lunch today 🙃

But fear not because this meal deal came up with 70g protein 💪

Its by no means perfect (I.e. theres minimal fibre and 0 fruit/veggies) but its a great substitute for these moments.

I could have chosen a fizzy drink and a chocolate brownie in the meal deal - and on some days I definitely would 😋 - but instead I chose to prioritise my main focus: Protein and calories.

Protein is one of the key things that supports my training, recovery and overall health. Hitting those bigger nutritional priorities across the day often matters far more than whether each meal is “perfect”.

(I can have some fruit as a snack later for example)

This is something I talk about with my clients. Life is busy, routines get disrupted, and sometimes the day doesn’t go exactly how you planned.

But that doesn’t mean the whole day nutritionally is written off.

Sometimes it’s a carefully prepped meal.
Sometimes it’s a forgot-my-lunch meal deal that still ticks the important boxes.

Both can support your goals 💪
