Will we see you tomorrow?
Sarah Short will be facilitating our session tomorrow in person at The Refinery, with her talk on "How to talk about coaching in a way people understand!"
Most of us have stood at a networking event, been asked what we do, and watched the other person's eyes glaze over before we'd finished the sentence. We talk about transformation, limiting beliefs, and powerful questions, and then we wonder why nobody books a call with us afterwards. The language we learned in coach training is our jargon, not the language potential clients use about their own problems.
In this 90 minute live session, we'll look at why what you've been saying hasn't been landing, and we'll work through a single sentence structure called the Golden Sentence that lets you describe what you do in a way that makes sense to the people you actually want to work with. You'll leave with your own version, if it's not completely finished, you'll know what to do to get there.
Sarah Short is a coach and the founder of The Coaching Revolution. She teaches qualified coaches how to create financially viable coaching businesses. Sarah is mum to two grown-up daughters and lives in northwest England with her partner and her small dog Bo.
Sarah is the author of a number of books for coaches, including the best-selling book A Coaching Business In A Book in which she shares everything she knows about finding clients who pay a professional rate for coaching. This book was shortlisted in the British Business Book Awards 2025 in the Sales and Marketing category.

How confident are you when it comes to "How to talk about coaching in a way people understand!"? This is exactly what Sarah Short will be exploring with us next week.

Coaches - Our Spring schedule of session continues!
Our next meet up - again, at our new venue The Refinery - will be facilitated by Tamsin Hartley on the topic of Being with Discomfort: the Essence of Wellbeing.
Uncomfortable feelings are part of what it means to be human, but we don’t always know what to do with them. These feelings are a reflection of stress physiology in the body.
In this session you will learn how a specific set of questions, called Clean Language questions, can be used with clients to help them to manage feelings of discomfort in a way that restores the physiology of safety to the body. This can have a profound impact on both their emotional and physical wellbeing.
You can learn more about this approach in Tamsin's blog: https://lnkd.in/dr2eSeV3
ABOUT TAMSIN:
After working as a physiotherapist for ten years and then taking time out to raise a family, Tamsin retrained to work as a coach, trainer and workshop facilitator.
She have created The Listening Space because of her belief in the transformative power of listening deeply to ourselves and to others.
"I have also always been drawn to using metaphor in my work, and when a friend introduced me to Clean Language it wasn’t long before I was hooked. Here was a respectful way of working with peoples' metaphors that is both resourceful and richly creative.
I have combined the principles of mindful awareness with exploration using Clean Language to create The Listening Space - a structured process in which one person facilitates another to explore what is on their mind, using a combination of repeating back their words and a specific set of Clean questions".
Tamsin's work has also lead her to creating Coming to Calm, an approach that introduces you to mindful tools that help to make you feel calmer and bring a greater sense of enjoyment to the things that you do.

Time to announce our February event :)
This month we are online again with Maddie Brenner-Roach facilitating the session.
We will be focusing on "The Transformative Power of Mind-Body Coaching".
This is a hands on session where we will be guided to feel what it’s like when your mind and body truly come into alignment. We will explore why tuning into the body is so powerful and experience a short somatic practice that gives a glimpse of the shifts this connection can bring.
Together, we’ll reflect on ways to bring this awareness into your coaching - not to master it in this short time, but to spark new possibilities for yourself and your clients.
If you’re curious about how body wisdom can deepen presence, clarity and transformation, this session will leave you inspired, grounded and ready to explore further in your own practice.
Maddie is an Embodiment Coach and Yoga Teacher devoted to helping women know themselves deeply - not just in theory, but in their bodies and lived experience.
Drawing from a diploma in transformative life coaching, trauma-informed practice, and over 570 hours of yoga teacher training, she weaves science, soul, and somatics into her work.
Her own healing journey began in 2019, leading her to live, and now guide, from a place of embodied knowing. A podcast host and writer at heart, Maddie creates spaces where women are invited to listen deeply, soften the noise and rise gently into who they already are.
We will as usual have time for networking and a mindful moment to help set us up for the session.
We welcome all those with an interest in coaching, new members absolutely welcome :) and as we are online it doesn't matter if you are local to Sheffield or not.

Coaches of Sheffield - PLEASE READ and SHARE!
We have this evening been made aware of a very likely scam targeting coaches.
With thanks to Rebecca Norton for first highlighting this to us through our Whatsapp group, and Ryan Spence 🌱 ⓥ who shared an almost identical call a few weeks ago from another coach.
Rebecca, Chloe Angus 🌱 and several other members of our community received calls tonight from a private number. The caller went by the name of John Campbell and had a Scottish accent.
JC said he had money problems and was looking for life coaching but then said he wanted the maximum price possible and just wanted to give money to help out financially. Each conversation was similar to this wanting to give money, claiming he had issues with money, clearly not with a real interest in coaching and sounding quite distressed.
Dr. Alun Bedding has kindly shared more information on what we believe this scam to be: an "overpayment scam".
Here's how it typically plays out:
1. The caller insists on paying usually for the most expensive package (can create excitement and lower defences)
2. They pay by card / cheque / bank transfer often for more than the agreed amount
3. They ask you to refund the overpayment
4. Their original payment bounces or gets reversed / card was fake / stolen / chargeback initiated. But your "refund" of real money is already gone...
Red flags on the call (emotional manipulation) along with the private number. Trust your instincts coaches and be careful with your details.
We have seen that this has been happening for some time with creatives too and it seems like that any service providers, particularly sole traders could be targeted.
Please do share with others so people know to be careful.
We feel very lucky to have our community around us 💚 💪

We are back!!!
Julie White and Chloe Angus 🌱 have spent some of the festive period making plans for Sheffield Coaching Exchange 2026 and we are very excited for what the year holds.
If you are a coach in the local area, or perhaps you know a coach, that is looking for a community of support, learning and connection why not check us out?
Our first event is online (because it's blooming cold!!) and is being facilitated by the excellent Dave Palfreyman.
January's session is "The neuroscience of how we make decisions under pressure" and how coaching can help (of course).
Here's what to expect from the session:
We like to think we are rational thinkers and make great decisions. However, the neuroscience tells a slightly different story.
Together we’ll explore how uncertainty and perceived threat can hijack our decision-making.
We’ll look at what’s happening in the brain in those stressful moments, and together, with a coaching lens, we can explore how coaching can help create the conditions for clearer thinking when stakes are high. We’ll spend a little time focusing on how we can work with our biology to support better choices for ourselves and our clients.
Dave is a neuroscience-informed performance coach and supervisor with more than three decades of operational and strategic experience. He now supports leaders who want to think more clearly, perform under pressure, and navigate complex situations without burning themselves out.
His approach blends practical coaching with a little neuroscience that improves decision making under pressure, reduces threat responses, and builds psychological safety with tools leaders can use in real conversations. He’s particularly known for helping senior professionals in holding critical conversations, move through imposter syndrome, and make decisions with greater clarity during high-stakes moments.
Dave is member of the EMCC and ILM tutor. Alongside his coaching practice, Dave writes and speaks widely on the application of neuroscience to coaching and leadership.

This month at SCE...
Now the cold and dark nights have arrived we are back online for our final monthly session of 2025.
November's session will be facilitated by Jamie Adam on "Coaching for Organisational Transformation".
Coaching’s power is regenerative, most visible when it catalyses whole-system transformation. This session shows how coaches step into organisational change, scale individual coaching skills across systems, and respond to the urgent need for this work today.
Come if you want practical tools and strategies to engage organisations, demonstrate impact as part of your value proposition, and if you actually want to enjoy the process.
Jamie brings his experience and insight gained from grappling with the theory and practice of transformative practice across various industries and sectors.
He seeks to bring up from wisdom’s depths living insights that reinvigorate practice in work and wider life.
His children might also refer you to his experience with spreadsheets!
Join us on zoom, it's free to attend and all those with an interest in coaching are welcome :)

After a Summer Break we are back!
And what a treat we have in store. This month we have the fantastic Jonathan Cooper facilitating our monthly meetup on "Exploring the Enneagram".
Have you ever longed for a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you?
Have you ever pondered the reasons behind why certain individuals energise you while others leave you feeling drained?
Have you ever caught yourself repeating the same responses to others behaviour, even when you are aware that they don’t achieve a positive outcome?
If so, the Enneagram may be able to offer you some insight. The Enneagram is a fascinating framework for personal growth. It uses nine distinct personality types, each characterised by its own fundamental motivations, fears, and desires. It has a discovery tool to help explore our best and shadow selves and help us understand what circumstances might negatively affect how we show up in the world.
The insight The Enneagram has given me has transformed how I approach my life and work. The feedback I get from clients indicates that they too have found the insight transformational.
Jonathan Cooper is founder of The Unlearning Company. Prior to launching his business 2019 Jonathan worked in learning and development. He is passionate about the transformational impact that learning and development can have on individuals and teams. Jonathan says “I discovered coaching 20 years ago and it was transformational for me. Ever since I have been passionate about helping others experience the impact that coaching can have. I combine my passion for coaching with my passion for manufacturing. I am never happier than when I am walking a factory floor coaching. The Enneagram has become my go to for helping individuals understand their behaviour and teams work better together.”
