🌟 Super-signer alert! 🌟

👋 Here she is again… showing us another of her gorgeous signs. And a super useful one at that.

🔥 Little ones respond so well when we give them a reason:
“Don’t touch… it’s hot.”
“Careful, Mummy’s tea is hot.”
Explaining the why helps them make sense of the world - and signing gives them a way to show us they’ve understood long before the word itself arrives.

🧠 Learning the meaning of a word and the accompanying sign before you can say it is incredibly powerful. It supports safety, confidence, and early language development in such a natural, connected way.

💛 If you’d love to explore early communication with your little one, come join us at Sing and Sign Sheffield.

👶🏽 Babies can understand far more than they can say - and research shows early gestures support language development, ease frustration and help little ones feel more connected to you 💞

✨ That’s why Sing and Sign was created: the UK’s original, research‑informed baby signing programme trusted by families for over 20 years.

📍 Sheffield parents often tell me they’re amazed by how much their baby is noticing and wanting to communicate - and how signing helps them understand their little one instead of guessing. Many feel it’s helped prevent frustration and brought more joy and connection into everyday routines ✔️

If you’d love to support your baby’s communication in a fun, musical, nurturing way, we’d LOVE to welcome you 💛

🌟 Super-Signer Alert 🌟

One of my favourite things about baby signing is how it continues to support communication even after language starts to emerge 🗣️

🍌 This clever little poppet has been getting frustrated asking for a banana - because her “banana” sounded exactly the same as when she asked for her Nana (grandma). Two totally different requests… one identical word.

🅱️ So she’s started using the /b/ sign to make her meaning crystal clear. No confusion, no frustration — just perfect communication between her and Mum. Absolutely brilliant ✨

And here’s the fascinating bit: signing doesn’t stop being useful once speech arrives. In fact, it becomes an incredible support for early phonetic awareness.
🔤 In Stage 2, we introduce a playful, light‑hearted look at initial sounds in words and their accompanying sign - a gentle, fun foundation for phonics that toddlers adore ☺️✨

🌱 Our classes are designed to grow with your baby:

👶🏽 Stage 1: for little ones aged 6–14m

👶🏼 Stage 2: for toddlers aged 14–24m

We have spaces available on our Stage 1–2 courses for September.

✨ You may have noticed in class that we use pauses… and this is absolutely no accident. Parents often think communication begins when babies start talking, but the truth is, it begins long before words.

👶 This video is of my own little girl when she was younger, and once the signing started there was truly no stopping her. Watch how she finishes each line of the song I’m singing. It’s a perfect example of how early communication grows when we give babies space to anticipate and respond.

📚 What you’re seeing here is the natural build‑on from what we focus on in our Babes course during those very early months. Repetition, anticipation, routines, shared looking, turn‑taking and praise — just some of the weekly themes and techniques we explore — all lay the foundations for confident communication long before speech.

🧠 Our Babes course, like all Sing and Sign stages, was developed with the help of speech and language therapists, so every activity is intentionally designed to support early communication. Pausing, waiting, inviting… these simple patterns help babies predict, participate and take their turn.

🎶 This particular song is from Mr Tumble, and she would usually sign all the way through… sadly the book was in the way for this one, but trust me, she knew every beat.

💛 If your little one has started responding to pauses, finishing lines or joining in with songs, I’d love to hear your favourite moment. Share it below — these stories always make my day.

🫶 Same family, same sign… different message. Perfect understanding

☺️ Nothing I love more than hearing how your little ones generalise their signs and use them in new situations to get their message across. This clever little cutie first used OPEN to ask for her baby gate to be opened so she could climb… and now she’s using the very same sign to ask for her nappy bag to be opened to tell Mum she needs a change!!

🥰 Could not be more proud, or more in awe. Did I ever tell you how much I love baby signing…? 👀

🍂 Come check out Sing and Sign Sheffield - our autumn course starts in September. Many classes are now full, but do take a look at where there’s still space. You won’t regret it….

✨ 𝓔𝓿𝓮𝓻𝔂 𝓫𝓪𝓫𝔂’𝓼 𝓼𝓲𝓰𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓳𝓸𝓾𝓻𝓷𝓮𝔂 𝓲𝓼 𝓾𝓷𝓲𝓺𝓾𝓮 - 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽’𝓼 𝓮𝔁𝓪𝓬𝓽𝓵𝔂 𝓱𝓸𝔀 𝓲𝓽 𝓼𝓱𝓸𝓾𝓵𝓭 𝓫𝓮...
Some babies sign early, some take their time, and some suddenly burst into signing after weeks of quiet learning.

🧠 The most important thing to remember is this:
Your baby is understanding the signs long before they show you anything.
🫶 Your modelling is building their confidence, their communication skills, and your connection together.

🤲 Babies sign what matters to them - the things they love, the things they notice, the things they want more of.
😍 So keep watching what sparks their interest… that’s where their first signs will bloom.

✨ Save this for reassurance
✨ Share with a parent who’s just starting
✨ Tell me — what does your little one love?

💬 Multilingual babies hear so many beautiful words at home - but the meanings don’t always match yet.
That’s where signing becomes a little ⚓️.
- ONE gesture, ONE meaning, across EVERY language.

Research into bimodal bilingual babies (spoken + signed language) shows that early signing can strengthen early communication skills, support concept understanding across languages, and help babies link the same idea no matter which word they hear.

🍼 So whether you say milk, leche, حليب or 牛奶… your baby sees the same sign, the same message, the same connection ✨

If you’d love a simple, friendly guide to start signing at home, comment your baby’s age below and I’ll send it straight to your DMs 💛
