I overheard a little girl at one of our sessions last week run over to her mummy and shout “Mummy there is loads of real stuff” the exciment in her voice as she ran off to explore the mud kitchen reminded me how important this is 🥹

Imagine being 3 years old and having a playstation full of real foods and pots and pans, it would have been my D R E A M 🥔

🥣🥕Spring vegetable S O U P anyone?

🥦 We use R E A L fruit and vegetables for the majority of our play stations

But W H Y?

🥔Using real objects in play is so important for language

🥦Children need to understand the world around them and learn what objects are before they can learn that something can represent them

🥒So they need to know that a cucumber is called a cucumber before they learn that a plastic cucumber represents a real cucumber

🍅Real veg are also used for cutting and chopping which is great for developing fine motor skills

🧅It’s also a really amazing sensory experience, smelling spring onions, feeling prickly pineapples 🍍, looking at vibrant lemons 🍋

We have not one but T W O playdough stations for our In Bloom theme because who doesn’t love playdough!

🌼 Flower pot playdough - our muddies can make butterfly prints, design their own flower garden or something else, we love when our muddies create their own ideas! That’s the beauty of child led play ✨🦋

✝️ Hot cross bun playdough - make some yummy hot cross buns, add raisins, add sticks and bake them in blossom bakery for your customers to buy. How much will you sell them for? Would you like a lemon tea with that? 🍋🫖
