There are already many children and young people aged 4 – 19 years old across the city clocking up CU Credits and earning awards.

Inspiring learning beyond the classroom! 🌟🎓
Sheffield Children’s University celebrates and rewards children for taking part in fun, high-quality activities that build skills, spark passions, and support lifelong learning. There are lots of exciting activities taking place across the city such as karate, dance, cookery, forest school and media where children and young people can now earn CU credits. Since the start of Sheffield CU in 2005, more than 43,000 children and young people have, between them, gained over 3 million CU Credits. The best way to start earning CU credits is by taking part in after school clubs and activities. Many schools across the city are now subscribing to Sheffield CU. Activity centres across Sheffield are also signing up and children and young people can collect extra credits with a CU Passport to Learning. There are CU Learning Destinations throughout the UK. 🍎🌳 These looks like a fantastic family activities for the autumn!

Our friends at Rotherham Children's University are sharing two brilliant outdoor learning opportunities with Kids Plant Trees, including apple picking, seed gathering and exploring local green spaces.

A great way for children and families to connect with nature, learn something new and enjoy some fresh air together. 🍂

Researchers at the University of Sheffield are looking for children aged 6–9 to take part in a fun online learning study. Your child will play learning games online from home to help them understand how children learn (up to two hours in total, but you can break this up). Adults will also complete a caregiver survey (up to 40 minutes).

🎁 Children and families who complete the study will receive 2 Children's University Credits if they have a CU Passport to Learning and a £40 gift card from the study team.

Did your child receive a Children's University Curiosity Club bag this summer?

We hope you had a great time completing the activities. Now it's time to tell us which activities you completed so we can award your CU credits. There's still a few weeks to finish them off!

The deadline is 30th September and there are TWO ways you can let us know...choose ONE way...

1. Visit https://bit.ly/CUCC2026ClaimCredits or scan the QR code (on the picture here and in your packs) and complete the form.

OR

2. Complete the 'Jam Jar' sheet in your pack, fill in your name and school and take it into your child's school (if they've moved schools, take it to the one they attended before the summer). School will let us know which activities you completed.

All replies will be entered into a special draw to receive PRIZES kindly donated by some of our Learning Destinations, so make sure you're in it to win it! Schools with the most responses from their pupils will also win some prizes!

We can't wait to see what learning you all got up to over the summer!

A day of discovery at Sheffield Town Hall! 🏦

We were thrilled to be part of the Sheffield Town Hall Open Day as part of Heritage Open Days 2026 - giving children and families the opportunity to step inside one of Sheffield’s most iconic buildings and discover more about the city’s heritage and civic life.

There was so much to explore, including:
👀Behind-the-scenes guided tours – discovering parts of the Town Hall that aren’t usually open to the public
🌟The Lord Mayor’s Parlour – learning about the role of the Lord Mayor and the traditions and history behind this important civic space
⚖The Council Chamber – finding out where important discussions and decisions about Sheffield take place
🎨✂Create yourself as a Mini Lord Mayor! – a fun, creative activity giving children the chance to imagine themselves in this very special civic role..and more...

It was fantastic to see children’s curiosity, questions and enthusiasm bringing the Town Hall to life, and the sense of pride and belonging among volunteers and visitors alike was electrifying!

With over 800 visitors today, events like this are a brilliant reminder that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom - our city, its buildings, people and history can all become part of the learning journey. And many children earned their CU credits today too

We were so thrilled to be part of this event and we’re even more excited that this will be the first of many opportunities to explore the Town Hall as the journey to refurbish the building begins! Watch this space for more news...

That's why we're so proud to share our latest Sheffield Children's University Impact Report.

From after-school clubs and community activities to family learning and special projects, thousands of children and young people across Sheffield have been exploring, learning and achieving through Children's University.

This year's report celebrates their achievements and shares some of the stories behind the numbers, including our the story of one of our CU alumni, Leo Johnson.

Thank you to every child, parent, carer, school and partner who has been part of the Children's University journey this year.

🍂🎨 AutumnCraft is here! 🎨🍂

Calling all young creators! The latest AutumnCraft competition from our friends ootiboo is now open! Create something inspired by autumn using any medium you like, from drawing and painting to baking, sculpture or model-making. There are prizes to be won and entries will be showcased in the online gallery. Entries close on 30 November 2026.

🌟 Sheffield Children's University members can earn CU credits for taking part! Simply submit your entry and write "Children's University" in the "How did you hear about the project?" box when uploading.
