Messy Play… and yes, our staff get stuck in too! 💛

At Intake Preschool, we believe messy play is an important part of learning – and that sometimes the best way to support children is to get involved and get messy alongside them! 🖐️🎨

Messy play gives children the freedom to explore, experiment and investigate using their senses. It supports so many areas of development, including creativity, communication, physical development, problem-solving and confidence. It also gives children opportunities to make choices, try things out and learn that it’s okay if things don’t always go to plan!

But messy play isn't just for children… 😆

Our amazing staff are always willing to join in, have fun and get stuck into the children's experiences. Being involved alongside the children helps us build relationships, follow their interests and show them that learning can be fun!

And as you can see from these photos… sometimes our staff (Jake) end up being part of the messy play and the canvas too! 😂💛

You can't always wear your best clothes to preschool... but you can make some brilliant memories! 🎨🖐️😂

Now is the time of year that parents of children born between the 1st September 2022 and the 31st August 2023 should be applying for a school place in the 2027/28 Reception year group.

Parents who do not make an on-time application are far less likely to obtain a place at one of their preferred schools.

Parents can make their application using either of the following methods:

Online at: www.sheffield.gov.uk/schools-childcare

By paper form which can be downloaded at the above website or can be requested by emailing: [email protected]

Important Dates:
Applications invited from: 7th September 2026
On-line site closes: 11th December 2026 (noon)
Closing date: 15th January 2027
Offer date: 16th April 2027

We are absolutely delighted to announce the safe arrival of Emily’s beautiful baby girl! 🩷👶🏼

A huge congratulations to Emily and her family on this very special new arrival. We wish you all so much love, happiness and precious moments as you begin this exciting new chapter together. 🥰

Emily, we hope you enjoy every second of your maternity leave and making those special memories with your little girl. You will be very much missed at Intake Preschool, but we can’t wait to hear all about your adventures when you return! 💕🍼

🌸 Welcome Back, Intake Preschool! 🌸

We hope all of our children and families have had a wonderful summer filled with lots of fun, adventures and special memories! ☀️💛

Just a little reminder that Intake Preschool returns on Tuesday 1st September and we are so excited to see everyone again! 🥰

For all of our wonderful children who are starting their next adventure at big school, we want to wish you the biggest good luck! 🎒✨ We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you. Remember to be brave, be kind, have fun and most importantly, be YOU! 💕 We know you are all going to be absolutely amazing! 🌟

Although we will miss seeing your little faces each week, we can't wait to hear all about your new adventures! 🥹💕

And finally, a huge welcome to our next cohort of children and families! 🦋 We are so excited to meet you, get to know you and begin this special journey together. We can't wait to see all the learning, friendships, laughter and memories that the new preschool year will bring! 🌈

💜 Safer Sleep Matters 💜

At Intake Preschool, the safety and wellbeing of children is always our priority.

We've shared an email with our families containing a helpful Safer Sleep Guide from The Lullaby Trust. This guide provides trusted advice on creating a safer sleep environments for babies and young children and a valuable resource for all parents, carers and families with younger children and siblings.

Our caterpillars have now gone into their cocoons! We are so excited to watch them emerge as butterflies over the coming weeks.

We would like to say a big Good Luck to Jade who did return after maternity leave but is now deciding to spend a little more time with her family.

Jade has been with us for 2 years and has been a big part of our Butterfly room. I'm sure there will be a lot of children who are going to miss her.

🐛🦋 Learning About Change and Growth at Intake Preschool! 🦋🐛

Our children will be busy exploring the fascinating life cycle of a caterpillar and watching first-hand how these amazing creatures grow and transform into beautiful butterflies.

As we approach the end of the preschool year, this learning will provide a wonderful opportunity to talk about the changes and transitions that many of our children will soon experience. Just like the caterpillar, our children are growing, developing new skills, and preparing for their next exciting adventure.

🐛 Some of our Caterpillar Room children are getting ready to spread their wings and move up into the Butterfly Room.

🦋 Our Butterfly Room children are preparing for their biggest transformation yet as they get ready to start school in September.

Through observing the caterpillars, discussing change, and celebrating growth, we are helping children understand that transitions are a natural and exciting part of life.

We are so proud of all our little learners and can't wait to see them continue to flourish as they take their next steps on their learning journey. 💚

☀️ Hot Weather Reminder – Staying Safe in the Sun ☀️

With the warmer weather forecast over the coming days, we would like to remind all parents and carers to help keep children safe while enjoying the sunshine.

Please ensure that your child:

🌞 Arrives at preschool with sun cream already applied before their session.

🧴 Brings a named bottle of sun cream if not consented to using preschools so that staff can reapply it throughout the day (consent forms must be completed).

🧢 Wears a named sun hat to help protect their face and neck from the sun.

💧 Brings a named water bottle so they can stay hydrated throughout the day.

👕 Wears light, comfortable clothing suitable for warm weather.

At preschool, we will be encouraging regular drinks, providing access to shaded areas, and adapting activities where needed to help children stay cool and comfortable.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep everyone safe and happy during the hot weather.
