Sheffield RSCDS Scottish Dancing

If the first signs of Spring haven’t already put a “spring” in your steps, then come along and join us at our RSCDS Sheffield branch dance on Sat. 7 March and enjoy some lovely dances to recorded music. All are welcome.

A week earlier than usual to avoid the clash with the Harrogate weekend - it's the Sheffield "Nice'n'Easy" social on Saturday 31st January, at St John's Church Hall on Abbeydale Road South. All straightforward dances that we've done in class with our new dancers - but we're not expecting them to manage all on their own! Everything will be recapped and walked, and our loveliest more experienced dancers will be there with good eye contact, a big smile, and a reassuring wave in the right direction. The music will be all the best bands - pre-recorded. And if all goes pear-shaped, well, that's half the fun, right? 😉🤣

We hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, but if your feet are twitching and you can't wait to get back to dancing - we have good news, with two recorded music social dances within the next week.

The first is our Hogmanay social on Wednesday, 31st December (clearly), from 8:30 pm until shortly after midnight.

Then our first social dance of the new year is Saturday 3rd January, from 7:30 pm untl 11:00 pm.

Both dances will be held at St Johns of Abbeydale church hall. More information on the associated flyers and cribsheets on our website.

It’s here! The first chance to don your Christmas apparel and join us at our 6th December annual dance. We’ll be all trimmed up to enjoy the live music of Robert Whitehead. Mince pies will be served in the break.

Thank-you Heather Cowan and Michael Taylor for a terrific day school for us yesterday. Heather put us through our paces with some interesting dances (including The Markinch Mars Bar King, Glasgow City Strathspey, The Scholar's Strathspey - and a few more besides!) with her characteristic good humour and an eye for technique detail. Michael played some fabulous tunes, and kept us dancing enthusiastically long after energy levels had started to dip. Grateful thanks to the several who woke up with sneezes and sniffles and decided to stay away - but we did miss you.

Our Facebook feed seems to be full of Scottish country dance teachers extolling the skills of their beginners.... well ours too!! Last Monday we looked at reels of three and the allemande, as well as keep revisiting steps of course. It's just this pesky three in a four progression we need to crack.. but we will, and may there continue to be much joy and laughter along the way!🥰

We are having a day school on the 25th October. We're looking forward to welcoming Heather Cowan and Michael Taylor to Sheffield. Expect fabulous tunes, interesting dances, improvement to our technique, and a lot of laughter. There might even be biscuits.... Application form and more details on our website.

Monday again, and week 2 of our beginners class. Looking forward to seeing those who make it back after last week, and maybe one or two new faces?

We were beyond thrilled that people gave up their time on Monday evening to come and try Scottish Country Dancing with us. The noise and laughter in the hall suggested everyone was having a good time as Pluto's Head, Waratah Weaver, Jig to the Music and Pudsey Bear were all accomplished. More next Monday, including a first look at strathspey (think Braveheart meets Jane Austen - intrigued? 😉).
