As a result of our success recruiting and training Modern Languages teachers through School Direct, we have worked with the Department for Education to establish a subject specific School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider for Modern Languages. Our SCITT represents a new partnership between the state and independent sector offering a wealth of experience and tremendous opportunities

to train to teach in a wide range of contexts. Our SCITT is part of Chorus and Education Trust which has, at its heart, Silverdale School, an outstanding with a long track record of language specialism, in south west Sheffield. Our learning community believes in the power of language to transform lives and to create life opportunities for all our children and all our school staff. Our passion for languages and language learning has led to the creation of a programme which will prepare all our trainees to teach languages in the state and independent sector. We have a number of geographical hubs across England which centre around a cluster of state and independent schools in a local area making it easier for trainees to find a location that suits their needs. These include Sheffield, London, Manchester, Oxfordshire, the Peak District, Lincolnshire, the East Midlands and Humber. We offer you a first class school based training programme leading to QTS with PGCE and Master's credits. We work closely with Sheffield Hallam University to ensure that all of our students achieve not only QTS but also PGCE with 60 Master's credits. Our students also have full access to all of the facilities at Sheffield Hallam University. We offer a unique familiarization programme, which allows you to meet your peers and have an in depth introduction to the English education system as well as teaching and learning prior to going into your first placement school. This means that when you start in your first placement school you will feel fully prepared. We run core training days (day school), where you will learn about all of the key aspects of teaching languages in a vibrant, varied and supportive environment and also have the opportunity to share experiences with your peers and access the support from our lead teachers. We ensure that you will have an experienced, dedicated and school-based mentor, who will support you throughout the year through tutorials, seminars and informal meetings. You will gain experience in a wide variety of settings starting with two weeks in a primary school, two main placements in complementary secondary schools, a visit to a special school.

We had a great day yesterday at Familiarisation!

Our trainees learned about practical classroom strategies and even took on the challenge of learning Serbian.

By experiencing a completely new language for themselves, they gained a better understanding of what it feels like to learn a new language from a student's perspective. They can now take these experiences and ideas into their own classrooms.

Another brilliant day of learning, sharing and preparing for their teaching journey!

It’s been a brilliant first day at familiarisation! Today, we welcomed our new trainees as they begin their teacher training journey.

It was lovely to see everyone together in person for the first time. Our trainees had the chance to meet the people they will be training with, get to know each other and meet the team.

They also took part in their first training sessions, shared ideas and started learning together as they prepare for life in the classroom.

It was so lovely to see such a positive and enthusiastic group come together, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the week!

Day one complete...the journey has only just begun! 😃
