A group of students from Freeman College have been doing work experience at Lynwood Gardens Nature Reserve in Broomhall. The project was set up in response to the pandemic, which has seen extensive business closures
making work experience opportunities scarce.
Work at Lynwood Gardens
takes place outside in a small group, improving covid security. Our team work
unsupervised – the manager of Lynwood Gardens sets the tasks remotely,
and the team carry out the work in the manager’s absence. This minimises
social mixing.
Work done by the group include vegetation management,
footpath maintenance, nature surveys, litter picking, communicating with the
public and the installation of artworks.

How are your Monday evening plans looking in March? If you’re free and based in The Outdoor City, and you can make it to the Showroom Cinema for 6.30pm, then join the Goodgym running community and start the week right with a spot of exercise that combines with work for a local charity or community organisation. This can be a great way to get fit, meet new people and do some good. Everyone’s welcome and in March, during Sheffield's Festival of the Outdoors 2020, the group will be carrying out work for Sustrans National Cycling Network, Heeley People's Park and Lynwood Gardens.

Big thank you to Sheffield Good Gym and Regather for last nights efforts. They swept, pruned, shifted, cut and raked. It's amazing what can be done in one hour! :)

Are Hordes of Mushroom Fanatics Wrecking British Woodland? - The London NERC DTP Every autumn the tabloids churn out their stories on how our native forests are being decimated by vanloads of fungal thieves.
