Our Year 8 geography and biology students have had a successful trip exploring the moorland ecology in Padley Gorge, and the management of tourism in Castleton.
They got to use ‘kick sampling’ to find all sorts of wildlife in the river and collected data in Castleton to investigate how well the village meets the aims of a National Park.
For those who worked really hard (!) there was the opportunity to enjoy an ice cream and buy a souvenir, gem stones being a poplar choice! We were very proud of
how well the students worked, often in quite wet and surprisingly cold weather!

Former student Nia who achieved her Duke of Edinburgh Gold award last year was able to celebrate at Buckingham Palace recently. It was the 70th anniversary of the award and Nia and her Mum (our science department's Ms Jones) spent a lovely
afternoon celebrating in the palace gardens. There was sunshine, fabulous cupcakes, music and speeches by the Duke of Edinburgh, Dame Kelly Holmes and other guest speakers such as Silverdale alumnus Vikram Barn of the Sidemen. It was a fantastic and inspiring celebration of resilience, dedication and achievement.
Good luck to all the Silverdale students who are currently preparing for their Bronze and Gold expeditions - and to all the staff and parents who make it possible.

Our lion cub is being released into the wild today as part of the Pride of Yorkshire Sculpture Trail. It won't be venturing too far from Silverdale though. If you do come face to face with him, you will probably be able to defend yourself with a tennis or possibly a squash racquet...
Any guesses as to where you might find him?! Post your photos in the comments if you do Hunt him down!
