Today is National Writing Day! An annual celebration of the power of writing creatively, inspiring people of all ages and abilities to try writing for fun and self-expression.

Writing for enjoyment supports mental wellbeing, inspires creativity, helps us express our thoughts and feelings, and improves our writing skills.
Why not take some time today to try writing a poem or a journal entry or even make a start on your very own novel?

Congratulations to all of our Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award students on successfully completing their practice expedition over the weekend! 🥾🧭⛺

During the expedition, our students demonstrated outstanding resilience, and teamwork as they navigated unfamiliar routes, overcame challenges, and supported one another every step of the way.

The DofE is about so much more than walking miles with a rucksack. It provides our young people with the opportunity to develop essential life skills, including communication, problem-solving and independence. They even mastered the skill of cooking noodles and pasta outdoors! 🫕

⭐👏Super proud and well done to you all – we can't wait to see you take on your qualifying expedition in September!

Today, on Clean Air Day, we're highlighting the importance of cleaner, healthier journeys to and from school and how small changes can make a big difference to our environment and wellbeing. 🌱

We're proud to have recently launched our Active Travel Ambassador programme, with students already working hard to explore ways we can encourage more Westfield students to walk, cycle or use other active forms of travel on their journey to and from school 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️. By choosing active travel where possible, we can help reduce traffic, improve air quality, support our physical and mental health, and create a more sustainable future for everyone. 👍

We are hosting an Active Travel Campaign Week from 6 July, where we’ll be sharing our thoughts and ideas on cleaner and healthier ways to travel. There’ll also be plenty of prizes up for grabs too!

There’s no one way to be gay. Pride Month usually sees a lot of glitter and rainbows and drag queens; but it’s ok if that’s not the way you want to express your identity. Pride is loud and proud to fight for your right to be who you are and to love who you love, whatever form that may take.

Whether you’re still trying to understand your sexuality or identity, whether you’re out and proud or quietly q***r, whether you’re a theatre geek or a lover of sports; it doesn’t matter, you can be proud of the amazing you you are.

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Otis and his staff from Sheffield Support Dogs into school.

Some of our year 9 students were lucky enough to spend time with Otis and learn all about the incredible work that support dogs do and the positive impact they have on people's lives every day. Otis was a wonderful ambassador, helping us understand how support dogs provide medical assistance, companionship, and greater independence to those who need it.

The visit also encouraged our young people to think about how they can help raise awareness of the important role support dogs play in our communities.

A huge thank you to Sheffield United Community Foundation and the Premier League Inspires Programme for organising the visit, and the team from Sheffield Support Dogs for taking the time to visit us and share their knowledge. 🐕‍🦺❤️

Did you know? The original pride flag was designed in 1978 by American artist Gilbert Baker with eight stripes, though as demand for the flags increased, it settled on the six-striped version we know today.

Over the years the flag has received various redesigns to provide greater representation of marginalised communities. The result is Daniel Quasar’s Pride Progress flag with representations of people of colour in the LGBTQ+ community, the trans community, those living with HIV/AIDS, and the intersex community.
