Proud moment today!
Sometimes these things just creep up over time and then you realise the impact you’ve had on a horse and how much happier they’ve become in whichever part of their life they struggled.
Indi, a few years ago when I started clipping him needed sedating, this was a battle in itself and him accepting the syringe was extremely difficult, for all of us!
So I said let’s just try without sedation, Indi is known for being very chilled but when he doesn’t want something he doesn’t want it! 😤
So with Sam, his owner, armed with a mountain of treats we managed to get him clipped without sedation, some interesting patchy ones sometimes but he was a lot more comfortable, and happy!
So we then weaned the treats down, as you can see he isn’t the type who should be eating a bucket full of treats 😂🙈
We saved them for the tricky parts.
However after recently looking like a woolly mammoth and with the warmer weather hanging around we decided he needed to be clipped as he was getting warm just stood in his stable and now his workload was starting to increase.
This time was different, Sam was at work and I was all alone!
I had 5 mins of him being unsure, and being unsure if he was going to leave the stable looking like a patch work quilt, BUT he found his safe place in his stable and stood and let me do his clip without being tied up, just me and him! A full clip! Not just a few random patches like I thought it might end up being 😂
Building that trust over the years with any horse is special, and some days your reminded how these small things add up into big, special things!
The main thing is the horse is Happy and Comfortable and I’m so glad I’ve helped him he to that point 😊
