Development Education Centre South Yorkshire - DECSY

Resources and CPD to support education that increases understanding of complex global issues.

The Development Education Centre South Yorkshire, DECSY, works with teachers and others involved in education, promoting a development and global perspective in the curriculum. Using active learning methods, based on enquiry into issues and ideas, DEC(SY) aims to help people to develop the skills and commitment to work together to bring about a more just and sustainable world. We work with anyone engaged in formal education, including schools, local authorities, universities, early years settings and after-school clubs. We co-operate with other DECs, local, regional, national and international organisations.

At DECSY we love World Philosophy Day! A great opportunity to say what a useful tool Philosophy for children (P4C): long been valued by teachers as a method for developing critical and creative thinking skills through real dialogue about issues that matter to children. Teachers get trained in P4C at www.sapere.org.uk

A great two days with Sheffield schools at One Voice Sheffield run by Sheffield Music Hub. Ten classes also took part in the Schools Linking programme, sharing thoughts and ideas together using these great postcards they all designed.
