Adventure awaits⛰️🌊🧗

Our summer residential season has officially arrived! Our Year 3-6 pupils have been out and about across the country, swapping the classroom for the great outdoors and putting their character to the test.

Here is a round-up of our recent Junior School adventures:

⛰️ Year 3 headed to the heart of the Peaks for beautiful dales walks and the traditional (and mandatory!) ice cream treat. 🍦
🧗 Year 4 went on an exhilarating adventure to Thornbridge Outdoors, a high-energy return to the aerial adventures, mountain biking and rock scrambling that our girls love so much! 🚲
🦀 Year 5 ‘do like to be beside the seaside’ and went to Whitby! They enjoyed a coastal getaway filled with seaside exploration, local history and crabbing by the shore! 🌊
🏹 Year 6 went to PGL Lincolnshire - the ultimate finale to the Junior School journey! From zip-wires to team challenges, the girls embraced every adrenaline-fuelled moment. ⚡

At Sheffield Girls’, we introduce overnight residentials from Year 3 to intentionally cultivate independence, resilience and courage. These trips are a vital milestone in our pupils' journey, providing the perfect environment to build lifelong friendships and a ‘can-do’ attitude. ✨

A massive thank you to our incredible Junior School staff who give up their time to ensure these trips are safe, successful, and - most importantly - the best sleepovers ever! ☁️💤

🏅 Aching legs, but proud hearts: Infant and Junior Sports Day 2026 🏅

On Friday, our Infant and Junior pupils took over the English Institute of Sport (EIS) for a high-octane day of athleticism and school spirit! 🏃‍♀️✨

The atmosphere was electric as our pupils showcased incredible teamwork and friendly competition. From the precision of the hoopla and long jump to the adrenaline of the hurdles, relays, and the ever-classic egg and spoon race, every girl gave it her all! 🥚

It was wonderful to see our core values of Positivity and Kindness on full display, with pupils from Reception to Year 6 cheering on their housemates with such enthusiasm. 📣

A massive well done to every competitor who took part, and a huge congratulations to House Gurney for their fantastic performance and for taking home the trophy this year! Thank you to Mrs Dickson and our amazing PE team as well as all of our Infant and Junior staff who made the day so special, and an extra special thanks for all of our our parents and carers who joined us for the day to cheer the girls on. Hip Hip, Hooray!🏆

Well done to our Year 12 Chemistry students who took on the RSS Schools Analyst competition on Wednesday! 📑🧬The same group will also face the prestigious Cambridge Chemistry Challenge tomorrow so it is a busy week in the lab!

These challenges are notoriously difficult, designed to push students well beyond the A Level curriculum and test their ability to apply complex logic to unfamiliar problems. They are a brilliant opportunity for our to showcase their resilience and analytical thinking - key skills for any aspiring scientist.💡

Whether they are aiming for medicine, engineering, or pure research, tackling these high-level challenges head-on is what academic excellence at Sheffield Girls’ is all about.👏🔬

🌟 40 under 40 Alumnae Spotlight: Dr Clare Rees-Zimmerman 🌟

Today we continue our ‘40 under 40’ series by spotlighting Dr Clare Rees-Zimmerman, a pioneering Chemical Engineer whose work is reshaping our understanding of sustainable materials. 🧪🔬

From the science labs at Sheffield Girls’ to becoming a Lecturer at the University of Bath, Clare’s academic journey is truly outstanding. With a PhD from Cambridge and a Research Fellowship at Oxford, she now solves complex real-world problems by blending deep mathematics with practical engineering. 📉✨

Clare credits her all-girls education for giving her the confidence and curiosity to thrive. She remembers our school as a place where loving STEM subjects was always celebrated, and where the encouragement to perform and present prepared her for the challenges of academic life. 🛡️💖

Her advice for our Sixth Formers? Don’t worry about finding the ‘perfect’ path. Clare’s own multidisciplinary career proves that a STEM degree gives you the versatile skills to make a massive impact.

🏆 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! 🏆

Huge congratulations to Hattie, Ella, Lida, Nine, and Miranda, who earlier this year won the National Final of the Geological Societies Schools Challenge! 🏛️✨

The team put their academic excellence to the test, successfully designing a complex geological plan to tunnel a water source to a brand-new theme park. Their brilliant scientific insights and sharp problem-solving wowed the judges, earning them a stunning trophy and £500 to spend on geoscience education at our school! 🌍🔬

This is the first time a team from SHS has won this prestigious geology award and we were delighted to celebrate the girls’ success during our termly Celebration of Achievement assembly earlier this year.

Huge well done girls - we are incredibly proud of you all! 🌟

What a fantastic afternoon! Our Year 5 entrepreneurs took over the playground yesterday for their annual Charity Afternoon, and the energy was electric! ⚡🏢

Working in teams, our girls have spent weeks planning, budgeting and branding their own stalls. From innovative games to handmade treats, it was a masterclass in leadership and resourcefulness.

Seeing our pupils put their Girls of Steel character education into practice - balancing the books while showing immense kindness for their chosen causes - is exactly what makes the Sheffield Girls' steely spirit so special. 🛡💖

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event. We are so proud of our Year 5s for their hard work, teamwork, and for proving that you’re never too young to make a big difference! 🌍✨

Forging connections across the family🤝

Just before the half-term break, our newly appointed Head Girl Team travelled to our sister school, , for an immersive day of leadership training and strategic collaboration. 🚀

This was a fantastic opportunity for our student leaders to step outside the classroom and refine the skills needed to represent Sheffield Girls’ with courage and conviction. From sharing best practices to brainstorming innovative ways to enhance our school community, the day was a masterclass in teamwork and visionary leadership. 💡🌟

There is something truly powerful about the GDST network - seeing our girls collaborate with their peers from across the country proves that when girls support each other, there are no limits to what they can achieve. 🌍✨

We can’t wait to see the impact this inspiring team will have on our school this year. The future of leadership at Sheffield Girls’ is in very capable hands!
