Here at Riverview we are proud of the diversity of the community we serve, & of all the different languages that are spoken within our setting.
Children enjoy learning words & phrases in different languages, learning about different countries, religions & festivals.
This month we are focusing on URDU.
If you speak Urdu & are able to share any stories, music, newspapers, fabrics, clothing, currency or pictures to further enrich our environment, they would be gratefully received. In addition, if you have any information about your language, or your family’s heritage that you’d like to share, please speak to one of the team; we would love to pass this on within the setting.

Yesterday the Pre-School room had a visit from Le Animals. It was so exciting to see some of the animals from our favourite book... The Gruffalo! We saw a tinee tiny mouse, a scaley snake and a grey owl. We also got to meet a skunk who enjoyed eating a chocolatey treat 🐁🐍🦉.
Our Pre-Schoolers was super brave and each took it in turns to hold the owl all by themselves and helped feed the skunk.

This week our book of the month is "walking through the jungle". So a grownup gave the children an option of jungle animals they could make with the icing sugar and they chose "Giraffe" 🦒

The toddlers really enjoyed making their giraffe biscuits. Some children said "it doesn't have a long neck like a giraffe". The children really enjoyed blending the orange icing sugar to the yellow icing sugar.

Today the Pre-schoolers have enjoyed making some flapjack. We took it in turns to add the ingredients to the bowl and gave the mixture a good mix before placing it in the oven to bake. 😋

Today in the toddler room. We have been decorating some biscuits. All of the toddlers managed to put the icing on top independently with very little help from grownups.

We talked about how having a biscuit is a treat, and it's not a healthy snack to eat lots of. They really enjoyed the bright yellow icing and someone said "it's the sun!" 🌞

Today, we went to the park to make most of the summer holidays and the last of warm weather.🌞 They all really enjoyed exploring different areas of the park. Especially the swings going higher and higher, whilst at the park we made sure to stay hydrated with a refreshing cup of water.

When walking back to nursery from the park the grownups and children saw an ambulance with its sirens on. All the children got really excited and waved to the ambulance as it drove past. They waved back!🚑 We spoke about road safety and they each had a turn at pressing the button and waited for the green man before crossing the road.🚦

This week in pre school🌷

The children have enjoyed lots of potion making this week using a variety of different ingredients, such as flowers, lemons, limes and oranges! Some of the children had said they were making "smoothies" for their peers using the fruit 🍋

The children have enjoyed doing some junk modelling this week using a variety of recycled materials, such as tissue boxes, egg cartons and tooth paste boxes. Some of the children decorated their models with a range of crafts. Some used theirs for role play! For instance using a large cardboard box one of the pre-schoolers chose to paint it and pretended it was a car 🎨

We've also had some doctors in preschool this week! The children have enjoyed exploring different professions🧑‍⚕️. During role play the children have enjoyed dressing up as doctors and caring for their patients.

Today the preschoolers have enjoyed a trip to the local park! On our way there we spoke about road safety. The children engaged in conversations about how to safely cross the road and what to look out for, saying "wait for the green man" when we reached the pedestrian crossing, and "look both ways before you walk".
Once we arrived at the park, we discussed how to keep ourselves safe whilst playing there. The children helped the staff look around for any potential hazards. Some children said "we have to keep the gates closed!", "don't run away!" And "stay close to the teachers".

We then enjoyed playing on the equipment and having a fun time in the sun with our friends!
