That's what my home-educated son said about me after passing IGCSE English Language. And it's pretty high praise coming from him.

As an experienced English teacher and home-educator, I know from experience that it can be very tough deciding which English GCSE/IGCSE to enter your young person for.

So, I'm offering a free information session and exams Q and A for home educators or those considering it. It will focus mainly on English Language GCSE/IGCSE/functional skills as well as general tips and advice.

Yesterday I had a lovely visit from a former tutee who passed her GCSE English re-sit last autumn. It was wonderful to receive these gorgeous tulips -my favourites! How did she know? But it was even more wonderful to see her looking so happy and confident.

It made me think that this is what we mean when we talk about meeting young people where they are at and working with them to achieve their goals.

For this young lady, passing GCSE English was about opening doors; she needed her confidence building and strategies she could take into the exam and apply.

Together we honed the skills she already had and I used my insight as an examiner to help her maximise marks. She’s a very capable young lady who now feels liberated to pursue her dreams at college and beyond!

Tuition works best when it’s a regular part of the week.

2025 has been a rollercoaster. I'm so grateful to have had the support of my lovely family, friends and so many other wonderful humans.
