We’re excited to welcome Mango and Marmalade Stories and Miles of Smiles Nursery to CHESTERFIELD BARRIO FIESTA 2026! 🎉👧🧒

Mango and Marmalade Stories is a children’s book business that creates fun and colourful stories introducing young readers to different cultures and traditions, including Filipino-British culture.

Miles of Smiles Nursery, based in Sheffield, is a childcare nursery dedicated to supporting children’s early learning and development in a nurturing and supportive environment.

They’ll be bringing children’s activities to the fiesta for our young guests to enjoy.

Our children have been busy planting cress, and look at it now—beautifully growing! 🌿 It’s been so exciting watching their faces light up as they see the results of their hard work and care.

Planting cress is a simple but powerful activity in Early Years. It helps children to:
✨ Understand growth and change over time
✨ Learn responsibility through caring for living things
✨ Develop patience as they wait and observe
✨ Explore early science concepts through hands-on experience
✨ Build fine motor skills while planting and watering

Most importantly, it gives them a real sense of achievement and pride—“I grew this!” 💚

Last week we celebrated British Science Week at Miles of Smiles Nursery! 🔬🌼

Our little scientists had a fantastic time creating their very own flower potions using natural resources. This fun, hands-on activity supported early years learning through science and STEM, as children explored:

✨ Mixing colours and observing changes
✨ Understanding volume and measuring using syringes
✨ Developing fine motor skills with pipettes and grippers
✨ Exploring nature through flowers and natural materials

It was wonderful to see curiosity, creativity, and excitement come to life as the children experimented, discovered, and learned through play 🌈

This week we celebrated 🌍🌿 World Wildlife Day. We explored the amazing animals and plants that share our planet! We visited Abbeyfield park and explore their wildlife. We are growing our own cress and we will explore how seeds become a plant! We used pop up tunnels as interactive tool for teaching children about the butterfly life cycle, acting as a "human-sized" cocoon or chrysalis for imaginative 🦋.

Integrating lessons about wildlife into young children is incredibly important for fostering environmental literacy, developing an appreciation for nature, and building a foundation for responsible global citizenship. 🐝🦋 ☘️🌵 🌴 🐦🕊️
