Renishaw Early Years and Robins Toddler Group At Renishaw Primary School, Nursery children enjoy learning together through play. Play = learning. We work very closely as a Foundation Unit.

The Foundation years are an extremely important stage in your child’s education. These first years are the time to set children up to become independent lifelong learners. At Renishaw Foundation Stage we believe to ensure that children find a love for learning, we need to embrace children’s natural motivation to PLAY.

“They just play all day”
Yes they do!! Children are naturally wired to do the very things that will help them learn and grow. We see it as our job to guide them in their learning and introduce opportunities to them that they cannot themselves discover. This means that the children in the unit have access to both sides of the building, the Nursery base and the Reception base, also free access to the outdoor area. The unit environment is “set up” according to children’s interests and needs. Children will have daily carpet times with their class teacher, which will have a curriculum focus, this is followed by “free flow” time to play and interact with adults and other children. Children have a snack area which they are encouraged to access independently when they want. Each week children will participate in “Forest Fridays” where they will take part in adult led activities outdoors. These sessions encourage learning through the use of the natural environment. There are many advantages to attending a toddler group for both you and your children such as:

It allows your child to socialise with other and gain confidence. this means toddler groups are a way to prepare for when they go to Nursery. The children have the opportunity to play with various toys and join in fun activities. From creative, dancing and singing. While parents have the chance to socialise with other carers, and so avoid the isolation that looking after children can involve. You can meet people who are in similar situation and so find support and meet friends.

The nursery children had a lovely morning at forest school on Friday.
They all made Moon faces, using clay. The children picked a tree trunk to press the clay into to make a pattern.
This week we are going to paint them, like the moon in our story book “Papa, Please get the moon for me”

Forest school is always a favourite with all the children, they like looking for bugs and frogs and running in our wonderful field, with freedom to explore.
