Happy Making Days

There has been a couple of extra weeks since our last as we had a trip to the festival of quilts on our usual weekend at the start of the month. Some of our regular ladies were on holiday but we still had loads of fun yesterday with lots of gorgeous projects being worked on. Nicky is beginning her dressmaking journey and Shirley and Catherine are happy to share their knowledge with her as they both enjoy making their own clothes. Emma was getting to grips with a complicated quilt panel using her new woodland themed jelly roll. Paula's latest bear got a lot of attention as always. Jo was plotting out flowers on her quilt top ready for hand stitching and I needed help deciding on the final layout for my first jelly roll quilt which meant everyone got to have an opinion! Obviously there was plenty of tea and cake to see us through the afternoon too.

Birthdays are a great reason to give a handmade gift and this book cover was a fun project to make and combined my long held love of crochet with my new found love of sewing.

I decided that the quilt I've made for my friend deserved a special label but struggled to find one that I liked. Then inspiration struck and I decided to make my own. I wrote the message onto some fabric with my heat erasable pen and then used back stitch and french knots to embroider over my handwriting before adding a border with some offcuts from the quilt binding. My embroidery skills are still pretty basic but once the iron worked its magic and removed the pen marks the label isn't looking too bad. It just needs adding to the back of the quilt and I'm sure there might be just a bit more embellishment before I finish! Are you a quilter? Do you add labels to your finished projects?☀️

If you've been here a while you will know that I like to mark significant events with a handmade gift.
Therefore when your sons girlfriend is starting her very first teaching job in September and will be teaching a Y3 class in a woodland themed classroom with a reading corner that was enough reasons for me to make a book cushion! The fabulous fabric, cushion pad and contrasting zip were all from . I'm not sure how boisterous her class will be so each seam has been sewn twice and the handles got a 3rd one just to be on the safe side! A double sided gift tag completed the gift.

It's not often that we have to rearrange our dates for but we made an exception in order to go to the NEC for the yesterday. Here are just a few of the absolutely amazing quilts on display that blew our minds. Did you go? Did you have a favourite quilt? ☀️

is utterly brilliant!! It's been on my must visit list for a couple of years and it definitely didn't disappoint when we went there on Sunday. The sheer amount of planning, yarn, hours and hours of making and installing that must have gone into this event is mind blowing but the results are fabulous and there was pure joy in all the faces of the people walking round to admire it. Well done to everyone involved. We'll definitely be back to see you again ☀️

If you followed my stories last month you'll have seen these purple squares popping up as we travelled to and around Switzerland by train. The was the perfect holiday project as the pattern for the squares is easy to remember and meant I could still enjoy the beautiful scenery while not having to constantly refer back to the pattern. I managed to get all the squares and triangles made whilst on our adventures but didn't get to sew them together until we got home. This is the 2nd one of these tops that I've made and I'd highly recommend the pattern. Do you take a project away with you? I'm someone who decides on a holiday project before I decide which outfits to take! ☀️
