As GCSE Results Day approaches, it's important to remember that there isn't just one route to success.

For many young people, apprenticeships provide the perfect opportunity to develop skills, gain workplace experience and build a career while continuing their education.

Take Mia, one of our Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprentices. Mia preferred a hands-on approach to learning and wanted to develop her skills in a real-world environment. Through her apprenticeship, she has built confidence, increased her independence and developed the knowledge and experience needed to support children's learning and development.

Her journey highlights the value of apprenticeships in helping young people thrive in a way that suits their individual strengths and learning styles.

At Realise, we offer apprenticeships across a variety of sectors, helping learners take their first steps towards rewarding and sustainable careers.

If you're a parent supporting a young person as they consider their options after GCSEs, our free webinars provide valuable information about apprenticeship pathways and the opportunities available.

Why strong leadership matters in early years 🌱

Great early years settings don’t happen by chance - they’re built on strong, effective leadership.

From shaping a positive learning environment to supporting and developing staff, leadership plays a critical role in ensuring children get the very best start. It sets the tone for everything: culture, quality, and outcomes.

When leaders prioritise continuous development, clear vision, and strong relationships, the impact is felt across the whole setting—benefiting not just practitioners, but every child and family they support.

Investing in leadership in early years isn’t just about management—it’s about creating environments where children can truly thrive.

“It’s quite lonely at the top…”

A phrase we hear often in leadership—but rarely talk about openly.

In the latest episode of the Early Years Round Table, hosted by Realise, Laura Hodges is joined by an incredible panel of sector leaders to explore a topic that doesn’t get enough airtime: loneliness in leadership. Special guests include:

Dr June O'Sullivan OBE, CEO at LEYF Nurseries, Nicola Reed, Quality and Training Lead at Nursery Management Services and Charlotte Roberts, Director of Operations at Kinderzimmer uk.

This episode unpacks vulnerability and imposter syndrome, building resilience and finding your support network. This honest conversation looks at the reality behind the role and why connection matters more than ever.

This episode is a must-watch/listen for anyone in (or aspiring to) leadership in early years—and beyond.
