Call to action
There lies an invisible fine line between pleasure’s sip and addiction's bind.
Problems arise when it’s too late.
It isn’t until the line is crossed that we finally realise we are paying the cost.
Support, not stigma, is what we need, and as a society, we must take heed.
Be the change, pledge your support, Lift others, and don’t drag them short.
We must remove the barriers and open doors for everyone to access and explore.
Together, we can do much more by transforming stigma and understanding at the core.
Be the change, pledge your part, and help us create a community with a compassionate heart.
And If you want to see lasting change, pledge your support by signing the Sheffield Inclusive Recovery Cities Campaign.

The Pakistani Muslim Centre have generously offered their space to all ethnic groups as a safe space to gather and commune. A Womens BAME group has also formed as a result of today!
My research utilising community voice earlier this year highlighted the communities desire for diverse recovery pathways that are not available at present to BAME communities. Today's event is testimony to their desire to make change happen. These are grassroots community responses to the the needs of their community. The offshoots are led by and for the community. 👏🏻👏🏻

I've signed it. Please join me in showing your support
The Sheffield Recovery Community believes addiction does not have to be the endpoint and that change is possible.
Can you help us make Sheffield an Inclusive Recovery City?
An Inclusive recovery city is built by the people who live there and work to create compassionate and understanding spaces where everyone can access support and advice in a way that meets their needs.
We want to remove barriers that prevent people from getting help.
We want to raise awareness and promote understanding to dismantle the stigma and shame of individuals and families affected by addiction experience.
We want to use our Inclusive recovery cities status to celebrate the achievements, strength and resilience of those in Recovery and show that change is possible.
You can help us by signing up for the campaign and pledge your support here https://sheffieldrecoverydirectory.co.uk/sheffield-inclusive-recovery-cities/

Although health inequalities, social and economic factors are drivers of problematic alcohol and other drug use, we acknowledge that anyone, regardless of social background, race or gender can be affected by addiction. Addiction is not a personal failure or a sign of moral weakness.

Jit Chauhan and I will be interviewed tomorrow morning just after 9 a.m. on EAVA FM Multilingual Radio hosted by Kirit Mistry. We will talk about Jit's forthcoming event this Saturday which will invite people in the community to reflect on what are the recovery pathways for the Black and Asian communities and what changes are needed to what we have already? There will also be a screening of I'm Jit and I'm an alcoholic. We will hold open discussion groups following the screening. There will also be opportunities to voice your experiences and perspectives in a 'voice box cam booth'. If you live in or nearby Leicester it would be great to see you there in person this Saturday - details in picture below.
