Royd were graded as “Outstanding” by Ofsted in “Early Years Provision” as well as many of the other areas. Ofsted reported that “Royd is a welcoming and happy place. Relationships across the school are warm and respectful, reflecting the school positive culture”. If you are interested or know anyone who may be looking for 2 year old or 3 year old provision, we Royd nursery Infant School have places available. The Education for a Connected World framework is used by Royd Nursery Infant School to support in the delivery of online safety. It is a tool for anyone who works with children and young people. It enables the development of teaching and learning as well as guidance to support children and young people to live knowledgeably, responsibly and safely in a digital world.
It focuses specifically on eight different aspects of online education. Strand 1 focuses on “Self-image and Identity”

As part of “Celebration Assembly” on a Friday school celebrate children’s achievements.
One of the aspects that school celebrates is linked to our “School Values”. A “School Value” is a principle that guides our thinking and our behaviour. At Royd, every individual is valued for who they are and what they contribute to the school. Values are intended to support the personal, social and spiritual development of every pupil throughout the school. Below is a list of Royd’s eight values:

Reader, writer and mathematician of the week.
As part of “Celebration Assembly” on a Friday school celebrate children’s achievements. Children are rewarded for their hard work and quality of their work through receiving the Reader, Writer and Mathematician of the week t-shirts that they wear proudly during school. A huge congratulations to the children that received these awards this week. We are very proud of you!

Our Reception children have made a wonderful start to the school year and have settled into their new routines beautifully. It has been lovely to see them growing in confidence, building new friendships, strengthening existing ones, and sharing so many happy experiences together. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them!
This half term, our topic has been 'Why Do You Love Me So Much?' ❤️ Through this learning, the children have explored what makes them unique and special. They have celebrated both their similarities and differences by creating self-portraits and sharing some of their favourite treasures with their friends.
The children have also enjoyed talking about their families and the people who are important to them. In the coming weeks we are excited to use Google Earth to find some of our homes and our school, helping them make connections between their learning and the world around them.
As we continue our learning journey, we are looking forward to exploring the season of Autumn and discovering the wonderful changes that this time of year brings. 🍂

Both Royd Nursery Infant School has the Sports Mark Gold Award. This is the highest level that an Infant School can receive. Deepcar St Johns CE Junior School hold the Sports Mark Platinum Award. This is the highest level that a Junior or a Primary School can receive. As part of the annual Sheffield Physical Education Conference both schools were recognised for the high-quality Physical Education and Physical Activity opportunities that we provide our pupils. In order to be awarded Sports Mark Gold both schools provided children with 30 active minutes per day, intra and inter competition opportunities, sports leaders, 50%+ children attending after school clubs to name a few. The Platinum award is available for Junior or Primary Schools that achieve Gold consistently (5 years consecutively). Physical Education and Physical Activity has so many benefits. For example, it improves your mood, confidence, concentration, sleep patterns, health, leadership traits and friendships.
Royd Nursery Infant School have also recently WON the “Outdoor Learning Award 2023”, “Leadership in an Active School 2024” the “Primary PE co-ordinator of the year 2025” at the Sheffield Schools Get Active Awards. Royd has historically also won the “Upskilling staff in PE Award” as well.

Royd Nursery Infant School holds the Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA). LPPA is an exciting national award that supports schools in further developing their strategies to involve parents and carers more fully in every child’s learning experience. This award is designed to help schools to work in partnership with all parents and carers. It aims to increase parental participation in school life which in turn leads to improved pupil progress, punctuality, attendance and behaviour. The framework encourages parents to be involved in their children's learning leading to improved outcomes in all aspects of school life. We really value our parents and carers at Royd Nursery Infant School and have most definitely benefited from participating in the LPPA process.
Parent and staff relationships are so important. For example, children will do better and achieve more when their parents or carers are involved. As a school we have a vast range of activities where parents or carers are involved in school. Parents and carers are welcomed into all classrooms at the start of every school day. We also offer plenty of parent and carer workshops where they can come into school and participate in learning with their child. These workshops include ‘stay and plays’, forest schools, science experiments, reading sessions, learn a new skill to name but a few. The children absolutely love it when their parents or carer attends the sessions. It really does mean the world to the children and it is amazing seeing their faces beam as they learn alongside their parent or carer
Royd Nursery Infant School has held this award for over 15 years now. As a school we strive to do the very best for our parents and carers and children. Consequently, we felt as a school that it was important to engage with the process again as we believe that there is always more that we can do to further strengthen our relationships. We really do think that the parents and carers at Royd Nursery School are fantastic.
LPPA added “Congratulations to Royd Nursery Infant School on receiving this award. It is a very special school that clearly values its parents and carers and children. In equal measure the parents and carers clearly value the staff and the school. The perfect relationship!”

The Foundation Stage team at Royd Nursery Infant School hold the ‘Commitment to Quality’ schools award. In order to achieve the award the Early Years Quality and Access team scrutinised schools’ application, representatives from Sheffield City Council discussed the visit with representatives and have concluded that the work that Royd Nursery and Infant School are doing on ‘Active Maths for Engagement and Inclusion’ is something they would like us to share with other providers across the city as an example of good practice.
The Early Years Quality and Access team commented:
“At Royd Nursery and Infant School, Active Maths is a well-established approach that underpins teaching and learning. The EYFS team provides practical, meaningful mathematical experiences indoors and outdoors, tailored to children’s individual needs and stages of development. This inclusive approach promotes high engagement, supports a smooth transition into Key Stage 1, and reinforces a consistent culture of active learning across the school”.
Royd Nursery Infant School is one of only 7 schools in the city to have achieved this award. Historical various schools come to visit us to look at model practice, and this will continue moving forward.
