A message from Mr Sly who is at Whirlow. The Year 2 children that are currently on residential are having a brilliant time. Some of the children have been on a walk that included a trip to the park whilst the others have completed a farm tour as well as some farm jobs. This included feeding goats and guinea pigs, stroking the horses and learning about different vegetables and how they grow. Tomorrow they will swap roles so that they all end up having the same experience. The children also had an opportunity to play on the field this evening. The children have made comments such as “you get to have more time out and about with your friends experience exploring” and “it’s just a an incredible time”. This is exactly why we offer this experience. A huge thank you to all of the staff involved. From the staff that complete the administration, to the staff that support with cover at school and to the staff that give up their evenings to attend Whirlow and stay overnight

In 2 years olds this term our new topic is “Which is the biggest dinosaur?”. This is proving a big hit with the children as they are having a dino-tastic time! So far, we have uncovered dinosaur bones in the sand like mini archaeologists. We’ve explored dinosaurs made of ice in the water. The children have made dino shapes in the playdough and created some amazing dinosaur pictures with pom poms and paint. We have also had a go at sorting dinosaurs by sizes all whilst practicing and remembering each name of different dinosaurs.
We can’t wait to continue our prehistoric adventures and discover even more fascinating facts about dinosaurs as we explore which one really was the biggest!

Our Nursery archaeologists had a roaringly good time during our Dino-Dig Morning! The children carefully excavated real dinosaur fossils, making observations, solving problems, and using books and picture clues to identify their discoveries. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were incredible as they worked together like real scientists. The excitement continued when they met Rory the Dinosaur, proudly showing off their counting skills to 3 to make him roar! It was wonderful to see such engagement, teamwork, and a love of learning throughout the morning.

The children in our 2-year provision loved being mini archaeologists during our Dino dig morning. Using brushes, they carefully dusted down fossils and uncovered all sorts of amazing surprises, including dinosaur teeth, bones and even a dinosaur poo!
The children enjoyed looking through books to identify the exciting specimens they had discovered and learn more about them.
They were then introduced to Rory the Dinosaur, who completely mesmerised them. Rory even let out an almighty ROAR, and those who felt brave enough had the opportunity to stroke him.
It’s safe to say the morning was a huge success. The children worked wonderfully together, showing curiosity, teamwork and excitement throughout. It was fantastic to see their little faces light up with wonder as they explored and discovered new things.
