Behind the scenes with our media students! 🎥📻

Our Year 13 Creative Digital Media students spent a morning at Sheffield Hallam University, taking part in workshops with the Journalism and PR department.

Students gained hands-on experience in TV and radio production, creating their own news reports and radio shows while exploring a range of current topics.

A huge thank you to Sheffield Hallam University for hosting such an engaging and insightful session. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their skills and gain an insight into careers in the media industry.

Students have been getting creative in Photography!

Our Year 9 students have made a fantastic start to the year, getting stuck into their first photography project.

As part of the task, students have been exploring a range of photography techniques while developing their mixed media skills, producing some excellent work along the way.

Well done to all our Year 9 students for the enthusiasm, creativity and effort you've shown so far. We can't wait to see what you create next!

Our next summer graduate is Anastasia!

Anastasia successfully completed her Post 16 studies at UTC, achieving a Distinction Merit in Creative & Digital Media and a Grade B in her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

She is now studying at the University of Salford, where she is studying Games Design and Production.

Asked how she felt about starting university, Anastasia said: “I was so excited, I honestly couldn't wait!”

Reflecting on her time at UTC, she said: “I’ve loved studying at UTC. All my media teachers have been lovely. There have been so many fun moments and I will remember them for the rest of my life.”

Discussing how UTC helped her pursue a career in the games industry, Anastasia said: “Coming to UTC was one of the best things I could have done to start my career in games design. I created a 2D game in both my Creative & Digital Media course and my EPQ and I’ve just absolutely loved it.”

Anastasia is looking forward to building on the creative and technical skills she developed at UTC and taking the next step towards a career in games design.

Next up of our summer graduates is Marley who has just joined Bentley!

Marley successfully completed his Post 16 studies at UTC Sheffield City Centre, achieving a Double Distinction* in his Engineering Technical qualification and a Grade B in A Level Product Design.

Following his results, Marley begun a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Automation Control and Robotics with Bentley Motors, one of the world's leading luxury automotive brands. In the role, he will work on current vehicle production as well as future models in development.

Reacting to his results, Marley said: “I’m really pleased!”

Discussing his experience at UTC, he said: “The facilities here are just incredible, we’ve got loads of machines. Compared to a normal school, it’s just amazing. All the staff are really friendly. It’s a smaller school, so you know everybody.”

Speaking about the apprenticeship application process, Marley said: “Applying for Bentley was a long and competitive process. UTC really helped me to secure it by exposing me to employers and giving me the skills and experiences to talk about at interview.”

“I’ve had lots of opportunities to work with and network with employers. We’ve been out on trips, employers have come in and set projects and delivered talks and masterclasses.”

Asked whether coming to UTC had been the right decision, Marley said: “Yes, there’s nowhere else in this area that’s like it.”

As he prepares to begin his apprenticeship with Bentley Motors, Marley is looking forward to developing his skills in automation, control systems and robotics while building a career in the automotive industry.

Next up of our summer graduates is Idris!

He has already launched his engineering career with Omnia Projects after successfully completing his studies at UTC Sheffield City Centre, achieving a Double Distinction* in his Engineering Technical qualification and a Grade B in A Level Product Design.

Reflecting on his time at UTC, Idris said:

“There’s no better place to do engineering other than the UTC.”

“I don’t have one specific highlight of my experience. I’ve enjoyed all of it and I’ve learnt a lot. I’ve got top marks in engineering and my studies and done myself proud.”

Having always known that engineering was the right pathway for him, Idris embraced the opportunities available at UTC and developed the skills needed to secure his first role in the industry.

Alongside his studies, Idris has also excelled in judo. He currently competes for Team GB, is ranked number one in the UK and second in Europe in his category, and has represented Great Britain for the past three years. Throughout his sporting journey, UTC has supported his ambitions and celebrated his successes.

Looking ahead, Idris will continue competing at the highest level, with a Grand Slam event in Switzerland and next year's Global Games among his upcoming challenges.
As he progresses in both his engineering career and sporting achievements, Idris is looking forward to building on the success he has already achieved both in and outside the classroom.

Next in our 2026 Graduate Spotlight series is Charlotte, who is accelerating her motorsport career as a Data Engineer with GB3.

UTC engineer Charlotte is accelerating her motorsport career with GB3.

Charlotte has successfully completed her Post 16 studies at UTC Sheffield City Centre, achieving a Distinction Merit in her Engineering Technical qualification and a Grade C in Core Maths.

She is now employed as a Data Engineer with GB3, one of the UK's leading single-seater racing championships and a key stepping stone for drivers aspiring to reach Formula 3 and Formula 1, where she analyses data from the championship's race cars and drivers to identify performance improvements, troubleshoot issues and help drivers gain valuable time on track.

Discussing her passion for motorsport and how she secured her current role, she said:

“I grew up watching Formula 1 with my grandad and always knew I wanted to work in racing. I also loved maths, so being able to combine that with motorsport is brilliant.”

“I love the role I'm doing now so much. It was daunting at first, but now I absolutely love it.”

Reflecting on her time at UTC, Charlotte said:

“Studying at UTC was amazing and the teachers were so nice and so supportive. One of the highlights for me was doing the Greenpower Racing project. It was a massive opportunity and I don't think I'd have got that at another school.”

Asked whether choosing UTC had been the right decision, Charlotte said:

“I definitely made the right decision coming here. If I could do it all again, I would!”

As she continues to develop her career within GB3, Charlotte ultimately hopes to progress through the motorsport industry and achieve her ambition of becoming a Race Engineer.

All of this term we will be celebrating our Year 13 summer graduates!

UTC Creative Digital Media student Blake is off to the Academy of Live Technology.

Blake has successfully completed his Post 16 studies at UTC, achieving a Distinction* and Distinction in Creative and Digital Media, alongside a Grade C in Photography.

He will now progress to the Academy of Live Technology to study Live Events Production, combining his passion for media, technology and camera work. he course will give Blake hands-on experience in live events production, covering areas such as lighting, sound, visual production and event management.

Blake joined UTC in Year 9 after feeling it offered more opportunities than his previous school, while allowing him to further explore his interest in media.

Discussing his next steps after UTC, Blake said:

“I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with my media background, then I came across this course and it seemed like a fantastic opportunity to mix media with my love of tech and cameras.”

Reflecting on his experience at UTC, he said:

“The teachers at UTC have been my favourite thing here. They’re so supportive, but you can also have a joke and a laugh with them. They help you to achieve the grades you want. Without them, I don’t think I’d have achieved so highly.”

Speaking about some of the opportunities he enjoyed during his time at UTC, Blake said:

“At UTC I worked with Sent Into Space, who were doing some work with Sony at the time, and it was so interesting. It got me into drones and I’ve got quite a collection now!”

Asked whether joining UTC had been the right decision, Blake said:

“Coming to UTC was the best decision for me. I wouldn’t have had the opportunities here or achieved the grades I have if I’d stayed at my old school.”

As he prepares to begin his studies at the Academy of Live Technology, Blake is looking forward to developing his technical and creative skills further while pursuing a career in the live events industry.

Huge congratulations to one of our students Ilyas on becoming a Grand Slam Champion!

At just 15 years old, Ilyas has achieved an incredible milestone, securing a Gold medal in Judo at a Grand Slam event in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Judo is a demanding sport that requires immense physical fitness, discipline and dedication. Balancing training and competition at this level alongside his studies is a fantastic achievement and highlights Ilyas's determination and commitment.

We are incredibly proud of everything he has accomplished so far and wish him the very best as he begins training for selection to represent his country at the European Championships in Serbia this November.

Well done, Ilyas! We can't wait to see what you achieve next. 🥇
