Well Done Lewis. Lovely to hear about the awards our SHU ODP alumni are achieving post qualification 💕
Congratulations to Lewis, our latest TULIP Award winner! 🌷
Lewis, an Operating Department Practitioner who works in the Maternity Theatres at King’s Mill Hospital, has been chosen as the worthy recipient of our latest TULIP Award following a heartfelt nomination from a patient. Lewis’ kindness and reassurance helped make the birth of her son a truly special experience.
The nomination described how Lewis provided calm and compassionate support during a caesarean section when the patient and her partner began to feel overwhelmed in theatre.
The patient said: "Lewis was calm and talked my partner and me through every step. He used language we both understood and gave his support throughout."
She also shared how Lewis helped her stay present during the birth of her son, encouraging her to look up and witness the moment he was born, creating a memory she will treasure forever.
The nomination praised Lewis for his calming nature and the positive impact he has on families during one of the most important moments of their lives, saying: “Lewis deserves this recognition for going above and beyond. My birth experience would not have been the same without him.”
Receiving the award, Lewis said: "I was completely surprised to receive the award and feel very proud. I joined the Trust a year ago as a newly qualified ODP after studying at Sheffield Hallam University and completing placements at Sherwood Forest Hospitals. I loved working here as a student and wanted to come back. Patients always come first; I couldn't do it without everyone's support and teamwork."
TULIP Awards recognise the outstanding work, compassion and care that staff across provide every day.
🌟 Well done, Lewis. Thank you for going above and beyond and for making such a lasting difference during life's most special moments.
