⭐️Post crash advice⭐️

I’ve seen a few posts on people asking how to get back to how you were riding after a fall and thought I would share some tips on how to overcome practically and mindfully. Keeping in mind there’s varying degrees of crashing and injuries to overcome.

We know that falling off you bike is going to happen and hopefully it will be a few scuffs and bruises and nothing to serious.

Getting back in the saddle can have its challenges. You may not feel as confident as before. You could be reliving your tumble, visualising it over and over again. It may be a certain part of the trail.

⭐️Don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself.

⭐️Take a step back and ride trails you are familiar and comfortable with, forget about those that are technical with bigger features.

⭐️Focus on those kind of trails that come easy to you with your skill level, those with lots of flow and what used to put a smile one your face when you first started riding.

⭐️Keep your grip relaxed on the bike and breathe, we tend to grip hard making the ride unstable and difficult to control the bike which can make you more nervous and scared to ride a section.

⭐️Go easy on yourself and don’t beat yourself up for not riding how you want to ride. It is a temporary state.

⭐️Be patient and don’t rush getting it back. It will come 😊

⭐️When it come to riding the section again, visualise yourself successfully riding it.

Michael Jordan "Failure" Nike Commercial 17/07/2020

Michael Jordan and the Nike advert ……. Good example of failure and a growth mindset in practice.

When you think about Michael Jordan in the Nike advert, he explains how many shots he’s missed more than 9000 shots, lost more than 300 games, 26 times he missed game winning shots and states he’s failed over and over again …………..and that’s why he succeeds. Powerful!

If he had a fixed mindset he would have given up with all those ‘failures’ . What made him continue?

Yep you’ve got it, a growth mindset to. He was prepared to deal with setbacks and failures and saw them a part of the process.

A growth mindset helps you take charge of the process that leads to and maintains success. Whatever that may be for you.

Keep following for more tips on how to develop a growth mindset.

It’s great to have fun and banter when beating your mates at races or on Strava. The real difference and gains can be made when you internalise the process and turn the focus on yourself.

It’s all about you.

Lets talk mindset

Your words build your mindset.

What are you saying to yourself before going out on your bike or while you are out riding?

Are you aware that what you say to yourself affects your performance as a mountain biker?

Is what you are saying to yourself and the words you use helpful or not?

Are your words progressing or hindering your progress as a mountain biker?

The words we say to ourselves become part of our thoughts. Our thoughts become part of our beliefs and when repeated over and over again are like mental reps for your brain. These repeated thoughts build mindsets.

Think about what you say to yourself, it could be limiting your riding more than you think.

I think we can all say the Covid-19 pandemic is certainly an obstacle.

How are you getting through it?

21/04/2020

Hi everyone. I’m really sorry there’s not been much activity on here for the last couple of months. I also work for the NHS and I’ve been heavily involved with the planning for COVID-19 which has taken up a significant amount of my time, emotion and physical energy.

My work has calmed down now and I’m in a position to pick up where we left off.

🤞💪😀
