It’s party time as carnival is back – and bigger than before 🎉

Almost 60 entries are set to take part in Sittingbourne’s colourful parade this Sunday (August 30).

The event was revived in 2024 after a five-year absence, and organiser Kelly Kay says this year’s procession will be the biggest since its return.

There will be 16 lorries taking part – up from 14 last year – alongside nursing homes, the Red Lion pub, dance groups, cars from the Mafia Super Club and even a fire engine.

This year’s Carnival Court will have a Wednesday Addams theme, with the court dressed in black.

The parade will leave Milton Regis Recreational Ground at 1pm, from the Vicarage Road entrance, and will finish in Sittingbourne High Street at the junction with Bell Road.

Kelly hopes lots of people turn out and support the carnival.

Check out these stunning pictures of Elmley Nature Reserve 📸🌿

They are just some of those featured in photographer Robert Canis' new book that compiles decades' worth of photos he has taken of the Sheppey beauty spot.

The 55-year-old, who lives in Sittingbourne, first visited Elmley in December 1980, aged just 10, to go bird-watching. Years later, once he could drive, he began capturing its wildlife and landscapes on camera.

Now, his new 200-plus-page book, First Light to Last, brings together 139 photographs taken over the years – from wildlife and sweeping skies to owls photographed at night and even meteor showers. 🌌🦉

Robert estimates he has visited Elmley several thousand times over 30 years, describing the reserve as “far more than a place to photograph” and an “integral part” of who he is.

The book also features writings from authors and poets, Robert’s own reflections, behind-the-scenes photography case studies and a detailed map showing how he created his images.

📖 The book is available to pre-order now.
