And welcome to all our new starters.

We have enjoyed our first week back learning about people who help us like police, fire fighters, and ambulance staff.
We finished our week enjoying some ice and frost in the garden!

I have recieved some messages tonight regarding nursery spaces, after the sad announcement of another local nursery having to close their doors for good, at the end of this year. 😞

SEPTEMBER 2025 📣

We are writing to remind you that your child will be starting primary education in September 2025, and you need to apply for a school place now.

Applications should be made online at Kent County Council's website

kent.gov.uk/primaryadmissions

Please remember: you must submit one online application per child by Wednesday, 15 January 2024.

Please ensure you receive an email confirming that your application has been received.

WHEN KCC OFFER YOUR CHILD A SCHOOL PLACE, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IN ORDER TO ACCEPT A PLACE YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE PROOF OF ADDRESS FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR CHILD DATED BETWEEN 5 NOVEMBER 2024 AND 15 JANUARY 2025 AS WELL AS A BIRTH CERTIFICATE.

Examples of proof of address include Council Tax bills for both this year and next year, a driving licence & utility bills or bank statement. You will receive a more comprehensive list when you receive your offer from Kent County Council.

Our theme for term 2 is How do we celebrate?

For English we will be looking at books such as Stick Man, Hello Winter, Father Christmas needs a wee, Jack Frost, Nativity and say hello to snowy animals. We will also be looking at non fiction books about fireworks and Diwali.

In Music we will be singing and playing instruments to twinkle twinkle (Diwali version), Jingle Bells, we wish you a merry Christmas and five little snowman.

In Maths we will be looking at shapes, space and measure.

Throughout the term we will continue to do our Jigsaw lessons, PE and Boogie Tots.

We will also have the opportunity to create opportunities for outdoor learning. In term 2 we will do this by giving the children a tour around the whole school.

This week was the last full week of term 1.

We started of by creating some art for the Big Draw. The Big Draw is a celebration of the dynamic and ever changing nature of drawing. The theme is drawing in motion.
The children used cars, pipettes and forks and paintbrushes to create motion in their art.

The children have been interested in snails at nursery, so to follow the children's interest, we did a bug hunt into Receptions garden. We found a slug, spider and lots of snails.

The last day of term is Thursday 24th October 🐥

This end of the week see us enjoying some road and bridge building where we focused on using our new vocabulary of: over, under, through and on top.

We felt some different textures such as leaves, mud, water and wind that related to our Going on a Bear Hunt theme and introduced new vocabulary of: wet, cold, windy, crunchy, slimy and squelchy.

The children have also experienced colour mixing via paint and learnt that yellow and red makes orange and yellow and blue makes green- some children enjoyed painting the leaves and others enjoyed covering themselves feeling the texture of the cold wet paint on their skin.

We had a Teddy Bears picnic where the children spoon fed the oats into the bowls, with the large teddy needing “more” and the smaller teddy needing “less” the two teddy bears the same size needing the “same” amount of oats.

This Week is Kinship Care Week. There are currently 164,000 Children in Kinship Care. Here at Rose St. School we recognise the wonderful work of Kinship Carers. To celebrate Kinship Care Week we are hosting an afternoon tea to celebrate Kinship Care Week. If you are a Kinship Carer and would like to come and celebrate with us please contact Sally to book your place.

Following on with our Autumn theme this week, we read the story The Helpful Hedgehog. We looked at real life photos and discussed how we could make our own using play dough and pasta.

The children worked together as a team to create the play dough from scratch by mixing, pouring and measuring the ingredients. Once the dough was ready we modelled how to roll it into a large ball using our fine motor skills and poked in pasta for the Hedgehogs spikes. As the children poked in the pasta we encouraged them to count focusing on counting 1-5 and on to 10 if possible.
