More and more students seem to want some extra help to achieve their goals in KS3 and GCSE maths exams so my aim is to provide friendly and specific guidance in maths.

A couple of things to take note of:

1st: for any students looking at getting a CGP workbook the foundation one is currently on Amazon for £1.79 so is worth grabbing sooner rather than later (the higher one was that price a little while ago so keep checking)

Secondly, my favourite maths teacher has now become a maths tutor (Mrs Povey's maths tutoring) so if there are people on my waiting list who don't want to wait please think about giving her a message.

Hopefully we will get the final decision soon on the formulae sheets for this year's year 11:

Okay so I have this niggling feeling that I've said I'll schedule someone in for January but I've not yet written it on the calendar. I've searched through my inbox and haven't come across the messages so if I've told you I have space for January and haven't confirmed a date and time please contact me ASAP.

I may be completely over thinking but I have that niggling feeling and it's driving me crazy 🤣

Excited to hear back from all of last year's year 11s today with their results!!
Hope you all get the grades you worked hard for and deserve :)

If for any reason you didn't get as high as you wanted then don't be disheartened it isn't the be all and end all there's plenty of opportunities for success out there still :)

Into the new year and some new students starting up. Please get in touch if you'd like any advice or want to ask questions with regards to finding a tutor for maths GCSE or KS3.
This is the term for year 11 where making sure you've filled all the gaps is really important so that from Easter you can focus on purely just revision and not having to learn something "new".

Remember to have an idea of what you need to aim for. Have a look at grade boundaries from previous years and see what sort of marks you needed to get the grade you want. The boundaries can vary from year to year so you should always aim a little higher than the average incase they move them up.

Practice is the best way to improve. It improves both your confidence and your time management as on e your confident you can answer the questions quicker leaving more time for the questions your less confident on.

Most importantly do your best. Try as many questions as you can as an empty answer box is a guaranteed 0 but if you write something you might bag a method mark or 2. Method marks are so important. If there are 20 questions and you only ever put the answer your max mark is 20%. But if you do all the working out with no answers you could get the other 80%

Practice practice practice.
And good luck

With it coming up to Christmas I hope everyone has a well deserved break to refresh before the important 6 months that lie ahead revising for GCSE exams :)
Lots of good sites for revision
Maths made easy
Corbett maths 5 a day and past papers
Revision maths
BBC Bitesize
To name a few.

I also highly recommend the CGP books they have a revision guide, workbook and 10-minute tests.

Checklists are very useful and a revision timetable is recommended.

Remember:
Answer as many questions as you possible can even if you have to have an educated guess - if you leave them blank you score 0.
Method marks! I big up the method marks! Show as many steps of working out as you can as you can get ECF (error carried forward) even if you make a mistake early on that leads to the wrong answer.

Good luck to all the year 11s collecting their GCSE results today :) I know it wasn't quite the same with everything going on the last year but all your efforts will still be rewarded with those well deserved grades :)

Almost the end of this academic year. Plenty of spaces for secondary age children. Been a funny two years within education with the lack of exams being held. Lots of children starting out in year 7 and 10 worried they've missed out on lots of teaching hours and wanting that little bit of extra help.
Please feel free to contact me or view my profile on tutorhunt by searching for local tutors in ME12 area code.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Easter break! I'm told that May will be a busy month for year 11 sitting "mini exams" to provide evidence towards grades you can all achieve so try your best, keep on revising and prove to your teachers how hard you have worked!
Still plenty of space on my calendar. Message me if you are after a friendly maths tutor :) or please check out the website Tutorhunt and have a browse - my profile is on there too :)

Lots of revision resources available online for free.
Check out:
Corbett maths
Maths made easy
Pixi maths
Just maths
Revision maths
The Edexcel, AQA and OCR websites themselves
Mr Barton maths
BBC bitesize
TES
Twinkl

There is plenty of choice for all topics at a variety of levels to suit. Remember this year it's evidence based so any work you hand in from independent study can count towards your grade- just make sure you show your working out so you can show full understanding of what you're doing.

Good luck and happy Easter break :)
