All Things SEN

All Things SEN All Things SEN - The Quay, Alternative Learning Provision - Learning to Love Learning.

All Things SEN is a different kind of alternative provision: building on seventy years
of a highly successful approach to education and therapy for children with complex
needs and behavioural issues (at the Sheiling School, Thornbury, now sadly closed),
led by experts in the field and staffed by carefully selected teachers and learning
mentors with years of experience and training, we aim not just to ‘fill a gap’ for
children who have not yet secured a permanent school placement, but to provide
genuine educational progression, a positive and child-centred experience of learning,
and a sound therapeutic basis from which to negotiate the most complex of learning
needs. In short, we aim to ensure that pupils in our care will be best placed to secure
permanent educational placements by virtue of learning to love learning.

What a great start to the new academic year! It has been wonderful hearing from families, seeing the learners' excitement to return to us, and welcoming our new students. It is truly heartening to feel such a strong sense of community, care and belonging.

With less than two weeks to go until Badminton Flower Show, here is a behind the scenes video of what our learners have been working on for the School and Communities Wheelbarrow area. With the theme of Live, Love, Local we have upcycled a sailing boat for our wheelbarrow to represent the boats coming ang going from the Sharpness Docks which is adjacent to our garden. I hope we don't eat everything before we get there!

There are many ways to learn about the natural world... this is how our younger learners explore the role of bees!
